BRAMPTON, Ontario — Daren Sammy, former West Indies captain and two-time T20 World Cup champion will take the helm as the captain of new Brampton Wolves GT20 team this year during the Global T20 Canada league this summer.
Daren Sammy who last year captained the Toronto Nationals says he is excited for this new chapter with a new team of other world-class international cricketers including Wahab Riaz, Shahid Afridi and Canada’s star batsman Nitish Kumar.
Sammy is renowned for his strong leadership skills and ability to turn the underdog teams into winners. As captain of the West Indies, he led two consecutive World Cup championships in 2012 and 2016 after 33 years of the West Indies team not lifting the trophy. This took the team to a global number one ranking during his leadership.
All 22 matches in the second edition of the Global T20 Canada will be played in Brampton, Ontario, home of the Brampton Wolves.
There are six teams in the league: the Edmonton Royals, Montreal Tigers, Toronto Nationals, Vancouver Knights and the Brampton Wolves. The league is scheduled to be held July 25th – 11th August 2019.
