TORONTO, Canada — November 12-17, 2018, will bring in over 100 athletes from around the world to the beautiful, vibrant island of Antigua for the second annual Antigua and Barbuda Cup Tennis Championships. The Antigua and Barbuda Cup will feature both adult and junior (ITF) sanctioned tournaments, as well as a week full of socials, networking and a pro exhibition match.
The tournament will be played on hard courts and consist of numerous events for each age group. Junior players can compete in enter singles or doubles in the U18 draw; and adults have the opportunity to compete in singles, doubles or mixed doubles. The adult championships will also be divided into four tiers: Open, A group, B group and Fun (recreational).
A highlight of the week will be the pro exhibition match, featuring Mark Phillippoussie. After reaching the finals of the Wimbledon and US Open, and obtaining notable wins over Andre Agassi, Pete Sampras and Roger Federer, Phillippoussie reached a career high ranking of world No. 8. Phillippoussie will be playing Jody Maginley, who received recognition playing #1 in the US for Northern Kentucky University, and then moving on to become ranked on the ATP circuit, as well as play for the Antiguan Davis Cup team. The two will face off on Sunday, November 11.
Qualifiers will take place November 10-12, and then the week will formally begin with a welcome party on Sunday, November 12, for all players and their guests. All official events will take place November 13-18, and the junior finals will be televised nationally on the 18th.
