PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad — A violent protest over the police elimination of a well known hoodlum and menace to society caused mayhem in the city of Port of Spain on Monday when friends, neighbours and family members of hoodlum Akeil ‘Christmas’ James (22) was killed by members of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) in the early hours of Monday morning on Calvary Hill, Laventille.
James was said to be a main gunman for the very disruptive and unruly Port of Spain gang called the Rasta City Gang on the hills of Laventille. James was reported to have been responsible for the recent killing of Prison Officer Davindra Boodooram.
Boodooram was shot several times in his car whilst stuck in traffic after leaving work in front of the St Mary’s College for boys on Fredrick Street in Port of Spain.
A disturbing audio note apparently made by a member of the Rasta City Gang was shared via social media in which a man threatens to kill members of the TTPS. The man in the audio encouraged his mates to “kill out the police”.
An autistic man was said to have also been killed in the mayhem on Monday.
