BASSETERRE, St Kitts (WINN) — No new governor yet – that’s the word from the Eastern Caribbean Monetary Council.
|Anguilla Chief Minister Victor Banks|
Council chairman, Anguilla’s Chief Minister Victor Banks, has denied reports that a Saint Lucian individual has been selected to replace Sir Dwight Venner, the outgoing governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB), who will demit office at the end of this month.
Banks told WINN FM on Friday that that was simply not true.
Reports making the rounds have suggested that Saint Lucian, Dr Higinus Gene Leon, has been selected as the new governor.
The reports have also indicated that the other two shortlisted applicants are Dominican Dr Valda Henry and the financial secretary of Grenada and a member of the Bank’s Board of Directors Timothy Antoine.
Banks also declined to confirm that these are the three candidates.
He told WINN FM in an earlier interview that he expected the new governor to be in place by December.
