CASTRIES, St Lucia — Prime Minister Stephenson King has invited internationally recognized and regional agencies to play a “watch dog” role in relation to the next general elections in Saint Lucia, which are constitutionally due no later than March 2012.
The agencies written to by King were the Commonwealth Secretariat, the Organisation of American States (OAS) and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
In his letters of invitation, King requested that they formalize “observer missions” to monitor the conduct of the next general elections in Saint Lucia.
In his invitation to the agencies in question, King noted that there was no history of misdeeds in the conduct of general elections in Saint Lucia.
To date, positive responses have been received from both the OAS and CARICOM.
