Jamaica PM to attend swearing in ceremony of Brazil new president

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaican prime minister, Bruce Golding, who is also chairman of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), will attend the swearing in ceremony of Brazil’s first female president.

Golding leaves on Friday for the Saturday ceremony. He will be accompanied by the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and foreign trade ambassador Evadne Coye.

He will be among 30 international dignitaries and 700 local officials who will witness the handing over of the yellow green presidential band from the outgoing President Luiz Ignacio Lula da Silva to Dilma Rouseff, the first female president to lead South America’s largest country.

The Jamaican leader will return to Kingston on January 2.
