Belize has new high court judge

BELMOPAN, Belize — Guyanese born Denis Hanomansingh was sworn in as a new High Court judge in Belize on Tuesday morning by acting Chief Justice Samuel Lungole Awich in his Chambers, in the presence of other judges and the Registrar General.

Hanomansingh, who has been attorney for 35 years, served as Magistrate, Senior Magistrate, Principal Magistrate, Director of Public Prosecution, and High Court judge in Guyana.

He also served as Principal Crown Counsel in Barbados and practiced briefly in New York after passing the New York state bar examination.

Belize, with a population of 300,000, has nine High Court judges.
