Poets Corner: PUDP Apartheid
Published on August 25, 2017 Email To Friend    Print Version

PUDP Apartheid

By Abdulmajeed K Nunez

From slavery to apartheid
Since 1981 this cannot be denied
Political, economic and educationally deprived
The entire country is polarized
Inter-connectivity is still not realized
Consecutive governments have done power consolidation
There is still no proportionate representation

One party and its elite class eats
After every election pass
Every party weh come rips us off
No freedom of information
Even the opposition get debate notes hours
Before a parliamentary session
When party loyalist di have big discussion

From slavery to apartheid
The Maroon spirit seem to have died
System in place to force you to abide
Slavery never died
It took on the form of the political divide
If you resist you are ostracized
Your children are marginalized
All resources are given along the political divide
To become a school warden the minister decides
To get a piece of land your area rep has to sign
To get a BDF, police or government job your area rep has to sign
To get a passport your area rep has to sign
When will Belizeans realize this is apartheid

Bonded by blood and marriage
PUDP decides who is more loyal in their eyes
We are indeed emancipated
Certainly not liberated
Emancipation Day is over stated
We've given up our economic independence
For political dependence
Dysfunction chaos and dependence
Liberation for Belizeans has lost it essence
Our government is steep in Guatemalan acquiescence
This is apartheid not democracy it makes no sense
