Grenada to pilot drug prevention program
Published on February 13, 2013 Email To Friend    Print Version

ST GEORGE’S Grenada -- Grenada has been chosen by the Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD), to pilot its drug prevention program.

This comes out of the recently concluded Caribbean prevention and treatment training and certification program (PROCCER), in which five Grenadians were trained in the field.

The five, are among 50 participants from five Caribbean countries that participated in the recently concluded training, sponsored by CICAD.

Participants from Grenada, Antigua and Barbuda, The Bahamas, Barbados, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago, along with facilitators, CICAD personnel and PROCCER Advisory Body, participated in a two-component training program.

Trainers from Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Grenada and Jamaica, attended the training component on drug prevention, while those from The Bahamas, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago, participated in the drug treatment component. These trainers will comprise the national core team of trainers for each respective country, and offer in-country training to prevention and treatment service providers.

The participating countries were selected by CICAD, to pilot the PROCCER, based on the nature of drug prevention and treatment programs being implemented in those countries.

Other OAS member states of the Caribbean will receive the training of trainers for their national core teams later in 2013 and 2014.
