World Cup predictions from St Lucia - Day 5
Published on June 17, 2014 Email To Friend    Print Version

CASTRIES, St Lucia -- Sunday proved a fascinating day when almost disappointing team Argentina wasn't all that bad and the most exciting team, France, was a pleasant surprise.

All the big names seemed to play up to their stature. After more than ten hours of waiting, we finally saw a second World Cup finals goal from Leo Messi.

Karim Benzema looked sharp with two... almost three goals and the Swiss upset my predictions by beating Ecuador in the last minute.

Shock of the day, Portugal to beat Germany 3 to 2. Already established in my mind is the relative strength of the European teams. The South American teams look disorganised and reliant on individual brilliance. Given there are five more games to go, I can't see any team reliant on a "top player" winning the cup. That gives the Dutch, Italy, England, France, Germany and even Portugal much stronger chances of winning. So far, the big EU teams look far more organised and much stronger in midfield.

Ghana vs USA is an intriguing one. That Jurgen Klinsmann let Team USA leave their best player in Landon Donovan at home, this may haunt them. 2 to 1....either way....USA to get the win.

Iran and Nigeria should be a win for the Super Eagles, 3 to 1 for my African brothers!

Great tournament; still not sure which European team will win!
