WICB praises government of Antigua-Barbuda for Caribbean T20 support
Published on February 3, 2012      Print Version

ST JOHN’S, Antigua – The West Indies Cricket Board has praised the government of Antigua and Barbuda for its support in ensuring that the Antigua leg of the recently concluded Caribbean Twenty20 Tournament was an overwhelming success.

“There were record turnouts for all six days of matches in Antigua and the role of the Ministry of Tourism in particular was instrumental in providing additional post-match entertainment and also in promoting the matches,” WICB commercial manager Nelecia Yeates remarked.

“We look forward to partnering with the Ministry of Tourism and the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority in future for the success of other cricket tournaments and matches in Antigua,” Yeates added.

She noted that Tourism Minister John Maginley was personally instrumental in ensuring that the ministry and the government were fully on board as an event partner.

"The Caribbean Twenty20 and the other international cricket events are very important parts of our events calendar and we look forward to partnering with WICB in hosting future events and adding that extra bit of excitement," Maginley said.

The Ministry of Tourism provided top Antiguan entertainers including Tian Winter, Tizzy and Claudette Peters for after match shows.

Over 42,000 came through the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Grounds as attendance surpassed 6,000 each night and peaked at 9,000 on the penultimate night.

The WICB also thanked ABS TV and Radio for their support in promoting the CT20.

The preliminary round of the CT20 was held in Antigua for the second consecutive year. This year’s preliminary round was originally scheduled for Trinidad but was moved to Antigua after the WICB encountered difficulties in staging the event there.
