The 'Puerto Rican Navy' gears up for the BVI Poker Run
Published on May 24, 2014 Email To Friend    Print Version

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -- The 13th annual BVI Poker Run is just a few days away. The event will take place at Leverick Bay on Sunday. Boats from Puerto Rico, United States, US Virgin Islands, St Maarten, the Grenadines, and Tortola will compete for the best poker hand.

"So far there are 86 boats registered to participate in the event, 45 of these vessels are from Puerto Rico," said Javier López, one of the organizers of the Poker Run. "We hope to have over 100 boats with the inscriptions made on the spot the day of the event.

This year, renowned WSEE weatherman Joey Stevens and his parrot, Bob, will be broadcasting the event live on the CBS affiliate. This will provide a lot of media exposure to the British Virgin Islands.

The race will begin at 11 am and will include stops at JY Harbour View Marina at East End, Tortola; Fish and Lime (formerly Jolly Roger) at Soper 's Hole, Frenchman's Cay; Pirates Bight on Norman Island; and Rendezvous Bar at Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbour, Virgin Gorda.

There will be several activities leading to the event on Sunday. They include a rendezvous for participating Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands boats starting at Puerto del Rey Marina in Fajardo, a welcome reception, cocktails, barbecues, and dinners for participants.
