Schalet and Pratt win 2013 SVG Tennis Singles titles
Published on August 24, 2013 Email To Friend    Print Version

By Robertson S. Henry

KINGSTOWN, St Vincent -- Myles Schalet of the USA lived up to the expectations of his coach and supporters, when he defeated seventh seed Sami Kirberg in the finals of the 2013 National Lotteries Authority-sponsored Seventh SVG ITF Junior Tennis Tournament, at the National Tennis Centre on Friday morning.

Played on court one, the final pitted two players who took nothing for granted and played smart, consistent tennis throughout. Without wasting time, fully cognizant that he has a Boys 18 Doubles semifinal later in the day, and a possible Boys 18 Double Final, Schalet took the first set 6-3.

He quickly followed up with a 6-2 second set win to add the 2013 National Lotteries Authority-sponsored Seventh SVG ITF Junior Tennis title to his resume.

Over on the adjacent court two, the number one Simone Pratt faced a tough examination from Breana Stampli in the Girls 18 Finals of the 2013 National Lotteries Authority-sponsored Seventh SVG ITF Junior Tennis Tournament.

The 2013 Coca-Cola ITF Junior Tennis Singles champion, did not allow the third seed Stampli to settle into any rhythm, winning in straight sets 6-2 6-1.

It was consistent tennis from Pratt on Friday morning, although she made a few unforced errors, but was able to add the 2013 National Lotteries Authority-sponsored Seventh SVG ITF Junior Tennis Girls 18 title to her list of accomplishments.
