Cricket fans come out to play as WICB launches 'We vs Them'
Published on December 5, 2013 Email To Friend    Print Version

ST JOHN’S Antigua -- Cricket lovers from around the world joined DJ Chicky over the weekend as the WICB launched its campaign for next year’s limited-overs series against England.

Several hundred cricket-lovers of all ages – Antiguans, Guyanese, Barbadians, Dominicans, Trinidadians, Jamaicans; as well as fans from India, South Africa, England and even Gambia – were in attendance at three venues in Antigua as the “We vs Them” slogan made its debut.

The Windies will host England in three ODIs at the picturesque Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium in Antigua and in three T20s Internationals at the historic Kensington Oval in Barbados.

Fans got the chance to play novelty games where they won authentic Windies Team kit, West Indies memorabilia and tickets for the matches in Antigua. They were kept entertained by DJ Chicky – the man who brought the concept of “party cricket” to Antigua back in the 1980s.

As part of the festive season the WICB has set-up a special promotion. Patrons purchasing “early bird” tickets before Christmas Eve will get another free for the same match.

The WICB’s corporate communications manager, Imran Khan outlined the promotion.

“Ticket sales will start very soon, and fans in Antigua will get two tickets for the price of one and that will last up until Christmas Eve,” he said.

“We wanted to bring the ‘game’ to the fans from early and make sure everyone out there has an equal chance of being part of what promises to be an amazing action-packed series next year,” Khan added.
