CHARLESTOWN, Nevis -- Manager of the Drag Racing Unit in Nevis, CJ Bartlette, on Wednesday announced that everything is pretty much set for the grand Independence Drag Racing event due to take place this weekend.

The test and tune event will be held at the St James Raceway on Saturday, with the main day of competition on Sunday.

According to Bartlette, the following islands have confirmed participation in the event:

St Maarten and Anguilla -- 22 vehicles
St Eustatius -- 20 bikes
St Croix
Antigua
St Kitts
Nevis

There are quite a number of much anticipated match-ups to look forward to, including the reigning champion King of Calle, with owner Moon insisting that his car can even clock a faster time than the last race. Added to that, Sherlock out of St.Kitts and the cars from Antigua and St.Croix are expected to provide stiff competition. There is also the long awaited return of Dan and Pancho.

Some business places have chipped in with some giveaways for the top racers as well as for some of the lucky spectators.

Additional entertainment will be provided by a popular DJ and live music by the Ultra Sonics band.

Bartlette urged fans to show up early on race day, as the action will be fast and furious.
