WICB completes hosting of second annual medical conference
Published on September 1, 2012 Email To Friend    Print Version

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados -- The West Indies Cricket Board successfully completed the hosting of its second annual medical conference over the weekend in Barbados.

The WICB Medical Conference was inaugurated in 2011. The debut conference was also held in Barbados. The WICB Medical Panel was formed out of the inaugural conference in 2011.

The WICB Medical Conference 2012 covered a wide range of issues and topics related to the health and wellbeing of cricketers, sports medicine and treatment including nutritional assessments and adjustments, on-field emergency management of injuries and anti-doping.

Key presentations were made by chairman of the WICB Medical Panel Dr Akshai Mansingh, Dr Anyl Gopeesingh, Dr Renee Best, WICB head physiotherapist CJ Clarke and WICB fitness trainer Hector Martinez-Charles.

The one day conference was described as a necessary and successful initiative and praised by the participants.

Tony Howard, WICB manager of development programmes, commented: “The conference provided a great opportunity for sports medicine professionals across the region, to be brought up to date with the latest policies and procedures on injury management and patient care. It also provided a forum for identifying challenges and finding solutions to issues which may impede high standards of service delivery.”

WICB head physiotherapist, CJ Clarke also commented: “It is great to see the hard work of the WICB Medical Panel over the past year bearing fruit. Some progressive changes have been made, and the involvement of regional specialists is strengthening our injury management network. There is much to be done, but the right people are on the team to help.”
