Published on February 27, 2013 Email To Friend    Print Version

WASHINGTON, USA -- Over the weekend, US Virgin Islands Governor John de Jongh met with representatives of the US Department of Health and Human Services, including officials from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, to discuss various health care initiatives in the USVI as specifically relates to implementation of the Affordable Care Act.

The governor explored options for expanding the Territory’s Medicaid program in accordance with the new health care law through talks with senior HHS and CMS officials, including with the US Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and other officials from the federal agency.

“The opportunity to coordinate our efforts and discuss the options of a Medicaid exchange and a health insurance exchange with Secretary Sebelius and other federal policymakers proved tremendously beneficial as we consider our next steps in implementing the provisions of the Affordable Care Act. I greatly appreciate the commitment that Health and Human Services and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services officials have shown in working with the Territory on these critically important matters,” de Jongh said.

The governor also met separately with US Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius.
