Two new tropical systems likely to affect Caribbean
Published on October 20, 2012 Email To Friend    Print Version

MIAMI, USA -- A large area of disturbed weather has formed over the eastern and central Caribbean Sea in association with a westward-moving tropical wave. Environmental conditions are favourable for slow development of this disturbance during the next few days.

According to the National Hurricane Center in Miami, this system has a low chance -- 10 percent -- of becoming a tropical cyclone during the next 48 hours.

Another tropical wave interacting with an upper-level low is producing widespread cloudiness and thunderstorms over the central tropical Atlantic about midway between the northern Lesser Antilles and the Cape Verde islands. Upper-level winds are currently not conducive for development but could become slightly more favorable in a day or so.

This system also has a low chance -- 10 percent -- of becoming a tropical cyclone during the next 48 hours as it moves slowly west-northwestward or northwestward.
