Published on August 31, 2012 Email To Friend    Print Version

By Caribbean News Now contributor

MIAMI, USA -- Tropical Storm Leslie formed in the open Atlantic on Thursday but, like its immediate predecessor, Tropical Storm, now Hurricane Kirk is not likely to be a threat to land.

According to the National Hurricane Center in Miami, at 5:00 pm EDT on Thursday, the centre of Tropical Storm Leslie was located about 1,060 miles east of the Windward Islands, moving toward the west near 21 mph.

A motion toward the west-northwest at a slower forward speed is expected during the next couple of days and, on the forecast track, Leslie is expected to move to the northeast of the Lesser Antilles.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 45 mph, with higher gusts, and Leslie could become a hurricane in a day or two.
