St Lucia opposition leader calls on PM to clarify remarks on hiring political consultants

CASTRIES, St Lucia -- Leader of the opposition, Stephenson King, has written to Saint Lucia’s Prime Minister Dr Kenny Anthony on the issue of the hiring of consultants by the last United Workers Party (UWP) administration.

In a letter on Monday, King wrote to Anthony asking for further clarification on statements made in his most recent address to the nation concerning his claim that a total of 141 consultants were hired during the reign of the UWP.

King noted that he would be grateful if Anthony provided answers to the following:

i) The names of the 141 consultants,
ii) The dates when those consultants were contracted
iii) The duration of their contracts
iv) The name of the projects under which they were engaged and job descriptions
v) The salaries of each such consultant

King, in his letter, also requested the prime minister to enlighten him on what actions Anthony has taken, having discovered those “so called” 141 consultants on assuming office over 15 months ago.

Disclosure by Anthony should clear the air and help the people of Saint Lucia to judge the actions of both administrations on this hotly debated topic of consultancies, King said.
