Spain interested in increasing trade and investments with Cuba
Published on November 7, 2012 Email To Friend    Print Version

HAVANA, Cuba (ACN) -- The growing presence of Spain in each edition of Havana’s International Trade Fair (FIHAV) is a demonstration of its interest in trade and investments with Cuba, Juan Francisco Montalban, Spanish ambassador to the island, said on Monday.

During the inauguration of Spain’s pavilions at the Fair, the diplomat asserted that his country’s entrepreneurs want to be present in development plans underway in Cuba, in order to contribute to their success with products, technology and investment.

According to Montalban, commercial exchanges between the two countries increased by 14 percent in 2011, when they reached 818 million Euros, and that it’s expected that the figure will be around one billion Euros at the end of this year.

At present, there are around 200 offices of Spanish companies on the island -- some 50 of them operating with mixed capital -- among which hotel chains stand out, he stated.

With 130 companies and over 600 exhibitors present in six pavilions, Spain -- Cuba’s third largest trade partner -- is once again the country with the largest representation at the Fair.

Until November 10, the exhibition areas of the Iberian nation will present goods and services in the energy, chemistry, tourism, construction, food and light industry sectors, among others.

Spain and Panama are the only two countries that have taken part in all the editions of FIHAV since they began in 1982.
