Second phase of Montserrat government iPad scheme completed
Published on March 8, 2013 Email To Friend    Print Version

By Nerissa Golden

BRADES, Montserrat (GIU) -- The government of Montserrat recently distributed more iPads to middle and senior managers in the service as part of its on-going plan to move towards a “reduced paper environment.”

In 2012, the programme was launched and facilitated the purchase of 25 iPads for legislators and members of the government’s core management team. This has enabled the use of these electronic devices for conducting business at the highest levels in government. The iPads have become the main source for storage and retrieval of documents for meetings.

At the end of February, 50 of the new iPad 4 with Retina Display were handed out. Although procured primarily for government use, they are very personal instruments and so will be the property of each employee. The devices were delivered to the civil servants on a repayment plan of up to twelve months.

The vision is that the GoM is providing the initial seed financing, which, when recouped will be used to cascade this initiative to other ranks of the civil service.

It is intended also for training sessions to be offered to staff members who wish to use the devices more efficiently. The possibility also exists for iPad applications to be developed to facilitate greater efficiency and use for official work.
