Seaborne Airlines to augment LIAT services to Dominica
Published on February 27, 2013 Email To Friend    Print Version

ROSEAU, Dominica (GIS) -- Plans by St Croix, USVI-based Seaborne Airlines to launch services to with Dominica effective on April 1 this year will augment services offered by regional airline LIAT.

Last year, the government of Dominica made a decision to invest $8 million in the cash strapped regional airline.

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said shareholder governments of the regional airline LIAT recently made the first down-payment of $3.8 million for six new 50-seater aircraft.

The new planes are being purchased as part of the company’s fleet renewal program.

“We have over the past few months been quietly negotiating with Seaborne Airlines to get them to agree to come into Dominica. That will certainly complement our investments in LIAT because LIAT as you know has taken a decision to purchase ATRs, planes similar size of the American Eagle, and that will also service San Juan,” Skerrit noted.

Three of the six ATR aircraft are expected to be delivered this year.

LIAT’s current fleet is estimated to be over 20 years old and has been deemed to have served the region well.
