Royal visit for Grenada
Published on February 4, 2012      Print Version

ST GEORGE’S, Grenada -- Queen Elizabeth II has designated members of the Royal Family to undertake official visits to all countries of which she is head of state, and this includes Grenada.

The visits, which form part of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Celebrations, are aimed at raising awareness on the significance of the Queen’s role as head of the Commonwealth and sovereign of sixteen nations. The visits are also intended to show appreciation of our Head of State and to connect the Royal family to nationals of the Commonwealth of Nations.

The Queen has designated Prince and Princess Edward, Earl and Countess of Wessex to visit Grenada. Their visit is scheduled for February 27.

The Queen’s representative in Grenada, Sir Carlyle Glean, chairs the planning committee for the Royal visit.

Activities planned for the Royal visitors include a Guard of Honour and cultural parade at the cruise ship terminal, a youth rally at the National Stadium, the unveiling of a plaque at the Botanical Gardens and the planting of a spice tree at Laura Herb and Spice Gardens.
