PAL Airlines launches weekly flights from Chile to Varadero in Cuba
Published on January 22, 2013 Email To Friend    Print Version

HAVANA, Cuba (ACN) -- Chile’s PAL Airlines has inaugurated weekly flights to the Cuban tourist centre of Varadero with 388-passanger-capacity A-320 airplanes.

The operations began on Sunday with 250 tourists, who booked their flight through tour operators such as Caribbean Chile, Havanatur and Solways, according to the Cuban Tourism Ministry.

The number of Chilean vacationers traveling to Cuba has increased by 18 percent, particularly those who pick Varadero as their holiday destination, said Havanatur director Lazaro O’Reilly in the western province of Matanzas, where the tourist centre is located.

Varadero, 130 kilometers (81 miles) from the capital Havana, was visited by over one million foreign tourists in 2012 for the fifth year in a row. It is considered Cuba’s major sun-and-beach tourist centre, currently with 20,000 rooms in 50 hotels.
