Over 50,000 Venezuelans receive medical treatment in Cuba
Published on February 20, 2013 Email To Friend    Print Version

HAVANA, Cuba (ACN) -- The Cuba-Venezuela joint agreement has benefitted some 55,000 patients, who have received free-of-charge medical treatment in Cuban hospitals over the past 13 years, said the coordinator of the program Jhonny Ramos.

Any Venezuelan suffering from a chronic disease requiring complex attention can apply for the treatment under the agreement, which may include surgical procedures and a prolonged rehabilitation process, Ramos told Venezuelan television.

Citizens interested in the medical treatment only have to submit a medical report and ID documents to social services offices in their regions, Ramos explained, as reported by PL news agency.

Each case is evaluated by a professional team, which selects those who will access the treatment for specific pathologies.

The program prioritizes oncologic, neurological and heart diseases, as well as physical disabilities, said Ramos.
