Published on September 8, 2012 Email To Friend    Print Version

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad -- The Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD) of the Organization of American States (OAS) and the government of Trinidad and Tobago will launch the country’s first pilot Drug Treatment Court on Tuesday, September 11, in the Caribbean country.

The ceremony will be attended by the Minister of National Security, Jack Warner; the Chief Justice Ivor Archie; the Assistant Secretary General of the OAS, Albert Ramdin, and other senior officials.

Throughout 2011 and 2012, Trinidad and Tobago has participated in various international activities on Drug Treatment Courts organized by CICAD. The courts are an alternative to incarceration for people with addiction problems who have committed minor offences.
