New destination app for St Martin/St Maarten
Published on February 21, 2013 Email To Friend    Print Version

PHILIPSBURG, St Maarten -- The island of St Martin and St Maarten now has a free app for iPhone and Android in four languages, providing comprehensive and current information about what’s happening and is interesting for visitors and locals.

iPhone and Android users are able to download the St Martin App for free from the App Stores.

The St Martin App contains extensive travel information, important phone numbers, history, where to eat, where to stay, and information on transportation, activities and main attractions. Also the St Martin App contains weekly updated events, promotions and special discount coupons. Handy features such as an exchange rate calculator, tip calculator and wheelchair accessible locations.

An innovative, fun and useful feature is augmented reality or 3D view. When you point the phone in a certain direction, as when taking a picture, all points of interest from related categories such as restaurants and sights in that direction will pop up on the screen.

Background information is obtained by clicking on the pop-ups.

The app is published by CRAPPS (Caribbean Apps). CRAPPS is a DMO specialist and has various leading destination marketing tools in the region. Because the development of the apps takes place over different countries, the products of CRAPPS are always up-to-date, innovative, focused on the needs of users and attractive to advertisers.

Although the development and operation of the apps take place regionally, the apps are focused on the local market. There is a category 'Tips by Locals', where various residents share their special places and experiences. The content and contacts are also managed by local colleagues.

In case of St Martin/ St Maarten, they have chosen to cover the whole island as one, but of course pay attention to the differences. The St Martin App pays special attention to local developments and events so that the app will be valuable for both locals and travelers. Updates of the apps are done automatically when connected with internet, without waiting or annoying reminders.

In the near future a web app or html5 version will be introduced for Blackberry and Windows users and also for desktop PCs. All versions can be used in English, French, Dutch, and Spanish.

Although all information and updates are free, the app offers a complete service that is supported by local businesses. Therefore, local authorities and businesses get a free listing in the app, so that users can easily find them. it is also possible for companies to draw more attention and provide more information with photos and details of their website, etc.

The St Martin App will be introduced on several locations on the island from February 27 - March 10.
