Published on March 8, 2013 Email To Friend    Print Version

By Nerissa Golden

BRADES, Montserrat (GIU) -- Montserrat has accepted an invitation to host the OECS Bar Association meeting to be held on Saturday.

Members of both the OECS Bar Association and the Judiciary of the Eastern Caribbean Court will be visiting Montserrat for the purpose of attending this meeting and related activities from March 8 to 10.

The meeting is part of an initiative of the OECS Bar Association to revive the Montserrat Bar Association, which has been dormant for some time, says a release from the organisers.

As part of the activities planned, a welcome reception will be held at the governor’s residence on Friday evening. On Saturday, members of the OECS Bar Association and the members of the private and public bar on Montserrat will be engaged in a seminar at the Montserrat Cultural Centre.

The presenters for this seminar will be Senior Crown Counsel Oris Sullivan from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and Financial Services Commissioner Dulcie James from the Financial Services Commission. They will make presentations on professional ethics and the foreign accounts tax compliance act and its implications respectively.

Following the seminar will be the OECS Bar Association meeting. The group is also expected to gather for dinner on Saturday night. The weekend of activities culminates with an island tour.
