Dear Sir:

I am a Vincentian to the bone. I lived there for the first twenty years of my life on the east coast, west coast and in the Kingstown area. I have relatives all over the island, and in the Grenadines, and spent many vacations with them over the years. I left to further my studies abroad, but returned and worked there for nine years with three different organizations -- never with the government.

Before I left St Vincent the first time, I had some very uncomplimentary impressions about most of our nationals. I did not like what I saw... and I was still just in my late teens. What I have discovered over the ensuing years has not changed my disappointing opinion about the majority of my fellow-men and women.

If I may, let me point to a few examples regarding what makes me so uncomfortable about, and disappointed in, the veracity of my countrymen. It hurts to say this, but I feel that I would be a complete hypocrite to feel this way, and not voice my opinions.

1) Opposition Senator Vynette Frederick Arrested

On September 12, 2012, female Opposition Senator Vynette Frederick was arrested for perjury. The fact that she is an attorney is key, since she is no fool and cannot claim ignorance of the law. Perjury is a very serious charge, and any attorney is certainly sufficiently trained and knowledgeable to be aware of this fact.

Too many of our people have continuously pretended that speaking the truth is of little importance. I have practically been on a crusade to limit this practice, since I have resigned myself to the acceptance that it will never be completely eliminated. Senator Frederick is obviously not the first to be found guilty of perjury, and I do not know one single member of the opposition political party (NDP) who is not a persistent, relentless and repetitive liar.

On December 6, 2011, I broke a news story on this subject entitled "A tale of two tapes: Political intrigue, Vincy style," where I reported the POSSIBILITY that Frederick "doctored" two tape recordings of pre-election political meetings. I am presently unable to comment further at this time since this is an ongoing investigation. All I could say at this point is that she has been charged, and is presently being processed at the Criminal Investigations Department.

The problem with Ms Frederick is that she swore to affidavits claiming that the Prime Minister made certain statements, and certain things were said at specified political meetings. However, she eventually swore to an affidavit saying it was through "inadvertence" that she made those statements, saying that they transpired at the meetings as she stated on previous occasions. There are three separate criminal charges against Senator Frederick, and we will see how all of this eventually shakes out.

2) Vincentians Restricted From Entering Canada

Up until September 12, 2012, there were no visa restrictions on Vincentians entering Canada. We did not need a visa to enter that country, now that is no longer the case. For several years, we as a people have been taking advantage of those comfortable regulations. What makes matters worse, is that we have been lying in order to obtain residential status in Canada.

In order for them to be able to stay in Canada, they are encouraged to lie. Some of these lies were as silly as them stating that they are lesbian or homosexual, and there is no freedom of association here. Others went to Canada and applied for refugee status by saying that economic conditions were so awful that they could no longer live in St Vincent. What they did not say or realize is that those are NOT conditions upon which refugee status could be granted.

To make bad matters worse, Arnhim Eustace and St Clair Leacock have both publicly admitted that they knew some applicants were lying, but still assisted them by writing letters on their behalf in an effort to assist our nationals in obtaining resident status. (It is estimated that between 95% and 98% of these applications were deemed to be completely bogus.)

Vincentians were warned by the Prime Minister and other authorities to discontinue this practice, but they did not heed his call. To make Ralph and the Vincentian government look badly, they continued to abuse this privilege. Now that the restrictions have become a reality, not only would fewer Vincentians be able to enter Canada, but additional fees have been imposed as well.

3) Anesia Baptiste Fired By The Opposition

Earlier this year, female Senator Anesia Baptiste was fired by the Leader of the Opposition Arnhim Baptiste... .and has now formed her own political party.

Anyway, one of the reasons provided by the opposition leader was that she is a religious fanatic who is never wrong. As a result, she was firmly on a collision course with anyone who dared differ with her opinions.

Eustace felt that she is confrontational, and takes sadistic pleasure in attacking anyone in the name of religious liberty. He also recognized that Anesia was disrespectful, thinks she is beyond reproach, takes advice from no one, and cannot handle constructive criticism.

Eustace admitted that she was divisive, is an extremist, is on a personal mission, and alienates too many persons. As a result, he had to get rid of her. But Anesia is not to be blamed totally. That is the message she received from the hierarchy of her party. That is the example which was set for her over the years.

4) Arnhim Eustace Disrespected The Speaker

On March 3 2011, Opposition leader Arnhim Eustace severely disrespected the Speaker of the House of Assembly. During debate in the house, the Speaker asked the opposition leader to take his seat, since he himself was speaking... and was actually standing at one stage.

Eustace simply refused to take his seat despite being continuously asked to do so by the Honourable Speaker. His response was that "he stood for democracy." What nonsense is this? ...In the hallowed halls of our parliament?

I painfully watched the Speaker as he patiently pleaded with the opposition leader to take his seat, and Arnim simply ignored the Speaker's requests. I wondered just how long this show of stubborn defiance would be tolerated by the Speaker. Eventually the police were asked to remove the opposition parliamentarians when they all refused to take their seats after disobeying Speaker Hendrick Alexander's demands.

My concern here is that people like Markie Spring and his NDP cohorts saw nothing wrong with Eustace's disrespect of the Speaker.

5) Matthew Thomas Calls For "Guerrilla Warfare"

In mid November 2011, Matthew Thomas, a staunch NDP supporter, promised "guerrilla warfare" in St Vincent if Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves receives any of the $250,000 in damages the Court awarded him as a result of slanderous statements broadcast on NICE radio. Thomas, not satisfied with his controversial statements, went on to say on air, "So when you jail me, I will be behind bars directing the show." No remorse for his original statement, and this man was not even hauled into Police Headquarters and interviewed!

6) Junior Bacchus' Defamation Charge

Another staunch NDP supporter, Junior Bacchus, was in court in late 2011 charged with defaming the character of the Prime Minister. Bacchus falsely commented on radio about the Prime Minister and his wife allegedly owning state lands. This was a deliberate and irresponsible false claim, and the High Court commented as follows: "This serious allegation was presented as a fact, and there is no indication in the defence that any steps were taken to verify this information." The total award payable by Bacchus is yet to be determined.

These guys just continue to lie with outright abandon!

7) Radio Talk-Show Host EG Lynch Defamation

EG Lynch, the infamous radio talk-show host has already spent some time in a St Vincent jail, but that has not stopped him from again defaming Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves. The courts have ordered Lynch and NICE radio to pay the PM $250,000 each after Lynch said on NICE radio that the PM used state funds to pay for his mother and daughter to visit the Pope in Rome. This was totally false and Lynch knew it! But like Markie Spring, it made a good story, so he told it. The Prime Minister has pledged to donate all of these proceeds to charity.

8) Arnhim Eustace and Daniel Cummings Lucky

Both of these parliamentarians as well, lied on the Prime Minister and lost their cases. In a gesture towards national reconciliation, the Prime Minister instructed his lawyers to discontinue cases against Eustace and Cummings in early 2012. The PM had already won judgements against these parliamentarians, but in an effort to show his attempt at national reconciliation and unity, he was prepared to let bygones be bygones.

In fact, even Markie Spring was moved to the point of praising the Prime Minister on this forum in an article entitled, "Reconciliation: A sacrament of penance ... " on January 17, 2012. Never mind Spring's subtle attempt here at begging the PM for a job, while sugar-coating it as a compliment.

9) Eustace's International Airport Lie

Two weeks before our December 2010 elections, Arnhim Eustace held a press conference where he announced that his party supported the construction of the new international airport. Eustace went on to state that for the last two years, he and his party were involved in negotiations with investors regarding construction of the airport.

This is classically untrue. For several years now, they have been opposing the airport's construction. So much so, that this is the one issue which has really divided the country. Some, like Markie Spring, have come around to recognize the wisdom of constructing this airport, but others like Allan Palmer still continue to oppose the project.

But for Eustace to claim that they support the airport's construction is patently untrue. The NDP has opposed the project because they know that if and when the airport is completed, they will never ever again retain political power in St Vincent.... and James Mitchell warned them of this.

10) The Referendum Lies

Prior to the 2009 constitution referendum proposed by the ULP government, several lies were told by the NDP in an effort to defeat the government's initiative. One lie was that if the constitution was successful, Ralph Gonsalves picture would now appear on our dollar bills. Another lie was that the retirees from England would lose their retirement benefits and pensions if we adopted a new constitution. And the lies just kept on coming.......

11) Allan Palmer Jailed For Conspiracy To Kill

Our own Allan Palmer spent some time in Her Majesty's Prison in Kingstown for conspiracy to kill Ralph Gonsalves. Let me have Palmer tell his story in his own words:

"They had me fired from the Police Force, and arrested, charged, tried, convicted and imprisoned, for conspiracy to kill Ralph Gonsalves."

This could easily be checked on this very forum in an article Palmer himself wrote where he bragged about his exploits. The article is entitled, "An open letter to Ralph Gonsalves and his supporters" dated January 3, 2012, paragraph 5.

Palmer has never denied his role in this conspiracy and attempted murder charge.

12) "King Liar" Markie Spring

On December 6, 2010, Spring made his mark. He falsely reported pre-election violence in Chateaubelair, reporting that four male ULP supporters viciously attacked, mercilessly beat, and violently kicked three NDP female supporters into practical unconsciousness.

ONE PROBLEM: Spring fraudulently switched the roles of attackers and victims!

Spring could have been misinformed, and he has been frequently asked..... should that be the case to simply inform the CNN readers. Spring did not budge, since he was not misinformed. He is the one who knowingly and pre-meditatingly manufactured that lie!

13) Allan Palmer's Massive Lie

The same Allan Palmer referred to above had his day in the sun on June 3, 2011, when he penned an article on this forum entitled "Who is Simon Anderson?" Palmer was at his lying best. He was on a roll. I mean, the lies just rolled off his tongue like hot butter on a sweltering summer day!

Palmer falsely claimed to know me, and told imaginary stories about where I was born and of my career as a school teacher and as a police officer in St Vincent. None of these was true.

Palmer falsely went on to state that we both were police officers in Bermuda, and I rose to the rank of Commissioner. He spoke in great detail about us having extensive conversations, and even claimed that I married a beautiful Bermudian woman.

If I did not know better, he would have convinced me that every word of his was true.

Palmer even went to the extent of now referring to me by other names. If he knew me so well, and even though I was Commissioner of Police, how could he now change my christian and surnames? Just as bad, are those who follow him like "blind mice." Common sense should tell them that if Palmer's first story is correct, then the following ones cannot be correct as well. They should be calling Palmer the damned liar that he is, and always has been from birth!

Why these guys lie, I have absolutely no idea! But this is a serious problem, because it seems as though it now pervades the entire society. It's like someone convinced them that lying is the way to go.

14) St Clair Leacock -- Disrespectful

I went to school with St Clair Leacock and know him very well. We were in the Army Cadets together and participated in military exercises throughout the Caribbean and Eastern Canada as well. We belonged to, and played for the same soccer team, Saxons.

However, Leacock is a character. I have no idea what his underlying problem is, but others have hinted at an inferiority complex.

Leacock recently attended a funeral service in St Vincent at the Kingstown Methodist Church and made some rather incendiary remarks. The presiding minister then felt the overwhelming need to offer an immediate apology.

At a recent function to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee he publicly lied by stating that he is a military product of the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst, England.

At a recent house party he was "fooling around" with a woman who is not his wife, and was caught red-handed while he was involved in this infidelity. The resulting fracas terminated with him receiving "major" blows all over his body.

Leacock, did not stop there and has even encouraged the local street vendors to break the law in the city. This man can only be described as a common hooligan!

15) These NDP Ignoramuses

In all honesty, I do not feel comfortable washing our dirty linen in public, but one sometimes gets to the point where they have to simply bite the bullet. I am at that point.

Many years ago, just after I left school, the thought crossed my mind that fully 60% of Vincentians must be among the most stupid and ignorant people on earth. I still believe that figure is accurate, but I have found that the same thing is true all over the world.

I also thought that 10% of Vincentians were among the best, most decent and intelligent persons on the planet.... "crème de la crème." I later found that this was true in all of the countries I have been fortunate enough to visit.

Even at that time, I thought that 30% of Vincentians are average, and I have come to the conclusion that the same is true all over the world.

Conclusion

My point is that even without scientific evidence, I believe that the majority of individuals all over the world are frequently wrong, ignorant and indecent. People are basically selfish and sinful as soon as they are able to express that kind of behaviour. People are not basically good. Bad and immoral behavior is the rule and not the exception. One has to consciously force themselves into a higher level of acceptability.

The Bible goes even further and says it this way: "for ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23

"There is none righteous, no, not one." Romans 3: 10.
