Letter: Vincentians are ruled by fear

Email To Friend Print Version | Dear Sir:
Many Vincentians have experienced or have friends, family or neighbours who have experienced political spite. Spite that has instilled fear in a large section of Vincentian society.
Culture of fear (or climate of fear) is a term used by certain scholars, writers, journalists, and politicians who believe that some in society incite fear in the general public to achieve political goals.
To speak out against the ruling regime, to be perceived as an enemy or even as simply as being a non-supporter of the supreme leader, can lose you your job and position in Vincentian society. It’s more than probable that if you support or vote for the opposition party you will be subjected to political spite. You and any member of your family will never get a government job, and those that have a government job will be fired. The regime has deliberately injected fear into politics as a method of control.
Fear is an emotion induced by a perceived threat which causes entities to quickly pull away from it and usually hide. It is a basic survival mechanism occurring in response to a specific stimulus, such as pain or the threat of danger. In short, fear is the ability to recognize danger leading to an urge to confront it or flee from it (also known as the fight or flight response) but in extreme cases of fear (horror and terror) a freeze or paralysis response is possible.
Young people who have had brilliant education results have been pushed on the garbage heap, because a member of their family is an opposition supporter. People in the Diaspora fear that if they are seen to be supporters of the opposition party, their families at home will suffer. The effect of fear in the Diaspora means that Diasporians will not be seen on blog sites, the fear for self and family at home in St Vincent stops them from expressing their opinions.
In his 2004 BBC documentary film series, The Power of Nightmares, subtitled The Rise of the Politics of Fear, the journalist Adam Curtis argued that politicians have used our fears to increase their power and control over society.
Some believe cowardice is what really stops people from speaking out, from speaking the truth and being fearful. Fear is a normal human reaction that all but the stupid have the ability to feel. The real cowards are those that prey on the fear of people, those that impose rule by fear.
"Fear makes the wolf bigger than he is." -- German proverb
Even the Vincentian police force is feared. They are known to beat confessions from people, and are supported by the government in doing so. There is also a shoot to kill policy in the police force, with several examples of that. It is becoming a common occurrence for police to pick people up, drive them to a remote area and beat them.
Police officers convicted of beating a youth were given their jobs back, convicted felons are in the ranks of our police force. The police are now seen in SVG as political police, unquestionable supporters and part of the political regime. They are like a bunch of puppets whose guide strings are controlled by our Marxist regime.
"In politics, what begins in fear usually ends in folly." -- Coleridge
Maurice Bishop, the Grenadian revolutionary, gradually controlled the people that he believed to be counter-revolutionary by locking up without trial thousands of his friends and perceived enemies alike. A report by his secret police, a finger pointed by a party member or the whisper of one of his collaborators was enough to ensure the lock down of a human spirit.
"The power of the Executive to cast a man into prison without formulating any charge known to the law, and particularly to deny him the judgment of his peers, is in the highest degree odious and is the foundation of all totalitarian government whether Nazi or Communist." -- Winston Churchill, Nov. 21, 1943
One of the real problems for Vincentians are the collaborators of the regime, people who are employed for money or favour, and in some case just to support local, regional and international communism -- Marxist comrades of the regime. Common instances are their lies and innuendoes on news and blog sites, bullying contributors to accept the regime point of view, attempting to further instil fear in those that may be tempted to write something about their current situation. They hope to be able to subdue the truth by writing lies and directly attack those decent people who have the guts and balls to publish or blog on online venues. These people are really enemies of Saint Vincent posing as patriots, they are not patriots of SVG, they are patriots of the regime leader [their paymaster] and Marxism.
Marxist collaborators can be many things: revolutionaries, politicians, academics, historians, poets, music and video producers, realtors. The only aspect that you might say brings their beliefs/actions together is their collaboration and the ability to attack non believers and instil fear in them.
Almost every book in the Bible has a "fear not" in it. The enemy uses fear, but God would have us to have faith in Him.

jason :
On a serious note, are you expecting a big job on one of those boards, if and when the NDP gets back in to office? Am of that opinion.
Commentary after the next, all you're doing is attacking the ULP and its leader. Not the government policy nor program only the comrade. Offer some solution and be balance for once.

| Peter:
JASON, I am far to old to be on any board, nor would I want to be.
You really do not get it. Like many people that come here I am not an NDP member or supporter.
I am a supporter of decency and what is right and correct, regardless of who is acting the part of the cloaked satanic demon.
There are two things that I attack in particular MARXISM and LIARS.
The fact is that Gonsalves falls into both categories, which is unfortunate, but true.
The shame is that people like you JASON, who perpetuate the lies, and support what is sometimes classed as indecent, crazy and inopportune behaviour, people like you support all that.
You, like many others, believe that the ULP is the old labour party, it is not. The old labour party was hijacked by a bunch of MARXIST’S, among who is GONSALVES.
Of course Jason if you are also a MARXIST, I can understand your sometimes quite silly blogs, because you would be on a mission of the defence of the indefensible. |
| jason :
Don't matter what you may say am still of the opinion you are an active member of the NDP.
Your writings alone points in that direction. Most of the vincentians who frequent on this forum take sides.
Do you agree with my observation? Am not a member of the governing party, but a supporter. I strongly endorsed the ULP for what they are doing to advance SVG economy. Peter these are serious times. Not to be guessing but good representation by our leaders. |
| Peter:
JASON, I can honestly tell you from my heart that I am not a ULP supporter. Since 2001 I have voted for Gonsalves ULP twice and NDP latterly twice. I am not an NDP supporter per se’ but after carefully analysing what Gonsalves has done and what I consider his outstandingly bad behaviour and political debacles, I cannot understand how any decent person can support Gonsalves. I won’t even go into the sexual allegations and charges against him.
His statement that he is here to finish the work of Maurice Bishop etc and other Marxist inclinations, taking us into ALBA and failing to tell us the truth about what he signed us up for is unacceptable for any right thinking decent person..
JASON if someone started a new party with real Labour ideals without the communist and Marxist-Leninist crap such as Gonsalves brings to the table, I would join it without hesitation.
I have told you before Jason, Gonsalves was in the wilderness for years in SVG, hated and disliked by the majority of our mothers, fathers and grandparents. The old folk did not like communism and told him so. If you get time go and read all the old news papers, you will see the bitterness felt by our old folk for him, Renick Rose and all those Marxist scoundrel’s that followed them. The letter pages are crammed full of so many anti Gonsalves articles, that if it was today, Gonsalves would have to sue almost the whole population.
Gonsalves eventually found the key, the formula to get the party into power, it was very simple, promise the people what could not be achieved, tell the people what they want to hear, even if untrue. Prior to an election give away galvanise, lumber, cement, refrigerators, washing machines, sheep, goats, T shirts. Give them loud music and concerts. All the things that appeal to the poor and ignorant. He found that if they could be bribed with trinkets, just like the African slaves were bribed with trinkets to catch them, then they would vote for him. Using his old inbred imperialist methods, that is exactly what happened. People were brought home from the Diaspora where they lived, on chartered air junkets, air fare paid by the ULP.
People from the Diaspora who had not lived here continually for the prescribed time required to be on the voters list. People who are kept on the voters list for just this reason, padding the list to help the voting figures. Those people get a free holiday with their families, compliment ULP.
They hijacked the old Labour Party, in fact I actually believe it was sold to them for a cash consideration, and promises of jobs and positions in the future, which has come to pass.
JASON, what I write tends to be true, unless I am misinformed or mistaken in my research, I never knowingly tell lies. Gonsalves constantly tells lies, he even told us in parliament that he tells lies. I cannot support a known liar, and cannot understand how anyone half decent could either.
JASON, do not be fooled by people who are paid collaborators who support Gonsalves and the ULP against anything which is true but may damage them. They are writers who are paid propagandists, some for cash payments, some for favours. They are generally the only ones who write to support Gonsalves. That is why sometime I am rude to you JASON, because I think you are one of them, but something else keeps telling me I may be wrong, you are either misguided, stupid, or perhaps influenced by the propagandists.
Well Jason, isn’t that a long reply. |
