Sitting on my balcony in the Saturday sunrise overlooking the Caribbean Sea afforded me a quick moment to reflect on the politics in Saint Lucia today as compared to my glorious time. After all, Allen’s United Workers Party (UWP), Stephenson King and the Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) red mealy bugs are the hottest ticket in town. For how long, I ask myself. The pit-bull will be off his medication and on his way to parliament on Tuesday, February 11, and all hell can break loose soon after the new leader of the opposition, “LOO, tom-girl” takes the oath of office.
Not long after my Blackberry poked me. Not to be undone was Catherine Sealys’ pot mouth and red mealy bug status revelation, in which it was leaked that Allen Chastanet had written to Arsene James asking him to resign from the Micoud South seat, because he (Allen Chastanet) was tired of being the white elephant in the room. Well, to describe himself as a white elephant in the room who wants to be in parliament… is like a red mealy bug, a destructive plant pest. The other risk is that a white elephant is a sacred animal, expensive to maintain, and must be fed often.
In other words, I submit that Allen Chastanet should try to understand that the economy is dead. After all, Consolidated Foods Limited (CFL) was sold and so the taxpayers of Saint Lucia are unable to maintain a white elephant that is expensive but useless!
On Friday evening, Edwin St Catherine, director of statistics, put the last nail in the SLP’s red mealy bugs’ coffin. At the end of the third quarter of last year, unemployment had climbed to 24.9% and, get that, there is not an official number for 2013 on gross domestic product (GDP) as yet. It sounds too familiar, according to Rick Wayne, as more businesses close and others are about to close. Today is February 8, 2014, and Saint Lucia’s GDP for 2013 is not known. So go figure, the rest is all guesswork at taxpayers’ expense while the SLP tries to arm twist investors.
My guess is Edwin St Catherine can expect a talk down from the SLP’s red mealy bugs and small minded propagandists like press secretary Jadia Jn. Pierre, who gets paid to spew propaganda, thereby creating a false image of her idol Kenny Anthony, in more ways than one. I can understand why she will not be happy for dampening the party’s spirit and reporting information that is politically unfavourable to the voter appeal of jobs, jobs, jobs!
Hey, no need to take offence, like Allen’s genteel 'high tea' party clan or to feel slighted when Sam Juke Bois Flood inquires about the prime minister’s itinerary. Since I have known you, I don’t get offended when you exhibit extremely poor disposition. Neither do I particularly get offended by your sneers and phony hissing-smile directed at the people of Saint Lucia. I perceive this is your maladjusted and arrogant style. A reflection of you tender age and immaturity to follow your master’s wish.
Unfortunately, this is a malady brought about by the arrogant and narcissistic, who behave as if Saint Lucians should not question them, but kneel and bow in their presence in total submission and recognition of their colonial past. This is madness!
So I was not surprised by your commonly rude response and your small minded propagandist method and that of the SLP’s red mealy bugs. Your shameless attempt to intimidate news media personalities has exposed your slime to despotic tyrants who come kissing at election time only to imprison the population thereafter. You should know by now that Sam Juke Bois Flood and HotFM are not Timothy Poleon, Radio Caribbean and Chris La Cobiniere.
I am of the view that we live in a democracy. We have the right to know. It’s state business paid for by the taxpayers. So here’s my question to the small minded propagandist, press secretary Jadia Jn. Pierre, and Allen Chastanet, who’s tired of being the white elephant in the room:
Can you explain the difference between Kenny Anthony and Allen Chastanet?
Have accomplished attorneys-at-law and legal partners, (Kenny’s daughter and Allen's wife) now agreed to abandon working in the same law firm, Du Boulay, Anthony & Co?
Where is “Mugabe” Harold Dalsan, minister for social transformation, local government and community empowerment? Is he on the island? Is he on vacation? Is he on medical leave? Is he in Cuba? Where is “Mugabe” -- it’s the people’s business?
After much delay, Saint Lucians now know the cost of last year’s jazz festival was EC$8 million. Last week, it was revealed that the 2014 budget will be cut by 40%, yet a high performance and great show will be on display. My question is have taxpayers been taken for a ride in prior years? Who took a pay cut? Who has enjoyed the privilege to siphon at least 40% fat in the Jazz festival budget that, all of a sudden, they can do without?
What is the cost of the hastily planned and poor showing by Saint Lucia Aiming for Progress (SLAP) or Saint Lucia Labour Party SLP’s red mealy bugs that was sponsored by the government of Saint Lucia to offer a poker face that claimed to honour Nina Compton, and her achievement as top chef?
She did great and represented Saint Lucia well. But to hurriedly announce the title of culinary ambassador as a political stunt before a cabinet decision and no plans, no signed contract to make use of her talent is a fake ploy. After all, who would give up an American passport for a temporary Saint Lucian diplomatic passport that politicians play Russian roulette with, and the US State Department has shown to have full authority over to deny entry and to restrict movement in the US?
Happy Valentine’s to the UWP white elephant and to all SLP red mealy bugs. En Rouge!
