Dear Sir:

Like millions of others in the USA and the Caribbean, I watched (dumbfounded) the Republican national convention in Tampa, Florida, on TV, and was absolutely amazed by what I witnessed parading as the truth. The astonishing thing to my mind is that, if I did not know any better, I would have believed every word I heard -- after all, some of the most prominent individuals in the country were uttering those words.

However, we should have been prepared for this display of untruthfulness. Prior to the commencement of the convention, the Republicans put out a statement saying, "We would not be deterred by any fact-checkers." Is there any other way to interpret that statement? If one is speaking the truth, what is there to fear, or to be concerned about?

The idea of others who do not keenly follow political developments and would have swallowed every word -- hook, line and sinker -- made me exceptionally uncomfortable.

The thought immediately flashed through my mind, again, how closely the Republican Party in the USA mirrored the New Democratic Party in St Vincent. Obviously, space does not permit for as lengthy an exposition of these similarities as I would like; however, I would point out a few of the notable parallels.

"Let Detroit Go Bankrupt" ...Mitt Romney

Even before the convention began, Mitt Romney had already lied regarding the recent rebounding success of the US auto industry. Romney has claimed responsibility for this success, stating that it was his advice which resulted in the resurgence of the auto industry. Nothing could be further from the truth!

In 2008 Romney penned an article in the New York Times recommending the industry be abandoned -- it should not be supported financially. His actual words were, "Let Detroit go bankrupt!" Detroit being the hub of the US auto industry. President Obama nevertheless provided financial assistance to the auto industry, and it not only survived, but it also thrived. Bottom line -- Romney lied!

Meanwhile, in St Vincent and the Grenadines, just prior to our 2009 referendum, the NDP told the country that they should not vote for this government initiative -- and they were successful in doing so. The NDP actually told Vincentian citizens that if the referendum became successful, that Ralph Gonsalves' picture would appear on our dollar bills in future. Sad to say, some of our citizens, not being as intellectually sophisticated as they should, believed them. ..."The NDP lied!"

Government Helped Build Private Enterprise

Before the convention even began, Republicans claimed that President Obama said "Americans did NOT build their own companies."

The Republicans took this comment completely out of context. They ignored the president's prior comments regarding government's support of businesses, especially regarding the provision of infrastructure and trained employees. The president had previously explained that the government built the roads which the company used to transport their products. He made the point that the government educated the employees who now worked for, and contributed to, those enterprises. The government subsidized these companies, and its policies aided their success. In other words, the individuals did not build their companies in a vacuum, or in isolation. Private industry received tremendous assistance from others... mainly governments (local and national), in achieving that goal.

That did not prevent the Republicans from butchering the president's words. They understood exactly what he meant, but went ahead anyway and dissected the words, only publishing those which aided their sinister purpose. ..."Absolutely dishonest!"

The NDP in St Vincent, not to be outdone, also created its own piece of dishonesty as well. After the black sigatoka disease infested the Caribbean, Arnhim Eustace informed Vincentians that the banana boat would no longer be stopping in St Vincent. One week later, the boat was here, and has always been here since then. ..."Arnhim lied!"

Convention Filled With Untruths

Mitt Romney told his convention delegates that he had a plan to produce 12 million jobs during the next 4 years. That is 250,000 jobs each and every month for the next 48 months! That is twice as many jobs as the existing record under better economic conditions, achieved by Bill Clinton in the 1990s. This calculation should also take into consideration the loss of other jobs as well. For example, if 12 million jobs are created, but 6 million jobs are lost, then the net effect is not 12 million, but 6 million jobs.

The Republicans completely disregarded the fact that for 29 consecutive months the US public sector added millions of jobs. The only comment on this matter Republicans chose to make is to focus on the loss of government jobs which Republican governors, mayors, parliamentarians and others purposefully eliminate in an effort to hurt the president's job performance record. They go even further and refuse to pass budgets, along with preventing job creation bills from proceeding through the house. They deliberately sabotage the government's job creation efforts, and they ship jobs overseas.

This is reminiscent of the NDP in St Vincent. The week before elections in December 2010, Arnhim Eustace held a press conference where he announced a job creation initiative. This program, he said, was aimed at producing 20,000 jobs in a country of 100,000 persons! Do these persons think we are stupid? Were they going to magically produce all of these jobs?

All of a sudden the NDP could produce enough jobs to satisfy almost 50% of the working population! ..."Arnhim lied!"

Medicare aka Obamacare

Mitt Romney has produced one (and only one) good piece of legislation in his political career ...that is the health care bill which he passed when he was governor of Massachusetts. Even then, he did so with Democratic Senator Ted Kennedy's support. Romney did nothing else of consequence during that four-year term, which is why he does not speak about his record of being a governor. Doesn't anyone else find that strange?

When Barack Obama and his team were crafting the national health care bill, the model selected was Romney's Massachusetts masterpiece which had Democratic Senator Ted Kennedy's fingerprints all over it. Because the Republicans do not want a health care bill.... further, one produced by this president, Romney has again flip-flopped, and said that the model is not suitable for the nation as a whole. It was good for Massachusetts though!

The NDP in St Vincent, meanwhile, had long opposed the construction of our international airport. One week before our 2010 elections, surprise, surprise, Arnhim Eustace miraculously appeared on local TV supporting the airport's construction, and announcing that he had been in negotiations with a construction company FOR THE LAST TWO YEARS to make this airport become a reality. ...."Arnhim lied!"

Goal - "Make Obama a One-Term President"

While President Obama was being inaugurated in January 2009, a meeting was being held down the street by Mitch McConnell, Paul Ryan, Eric Cantor and company. Their goal was simple -- make President Obama a one-term president. It was not to get our country out of the economic doldrums in which they, with Bush's assistance, had driven the country. It was not to extricate us from the stranglehold of the jobs or mortgage mess we found ourselves in.... thanks to the republicans and their lack of meaningful regulations. The goal was, by any means necessary, get Barack Obama out of the White House, even if it meant hurting the country in so doing. This is simple... oppose everything he proposes, even if it is one of our own original initiatives, projects or plans. ...Just say, "NO."

The NDP in St Vincent was not being idle in 2009; they knew elections would soon be due, and even though they lost to the ULP in 2010, they too, refused to accept the fact that they were relegated to sitting in the opposition benches.

Both the NDP and the Republican parties simply refused to respect the will of the majority of its citizens. To make things worse, they both refused to cooperate with the government of the day, and they even decided to sabotage their respective government's efforts at improving economic conditions.

$716 Billion from Healthcare

President Obama, in an effort to provide universal health care for ALL Americans, was able to trim $716 billion paid to health care PROVIDERS, which would have no effect on its delivery. The Republicans quickly turned that around, and reported that the president "raided" Medicare to pay for Obama-care, without saying that recipients would not be affected. In fact, they actually lied by reporting that benefits would be curtailed as a result of this cut.

This is eerily reminiscent of Markie Spring's lying when he said that three NDP supporters were attacked, kicked and mercilessly beaten into practical unconsciousness by four ULP supporters. The exact opposite was true, but Spring somehow could not resist the temptation to lie once more in his quest to become Prime Minister of St Vincent and the Grenadines. Apparently and unfortunately, no one has yet awoken him from this illusive and totally impossible dream.

Extreme Threats of Murder and Violence

Earlier this week a news report surfaced regarding Karl Rove (Bush's brain) who made a murder threat against Republican Todd Akin, if he does not get out of the November election, as a result of Akin's unpopular views on "legitimate rape." This is what Rove actually said, “If he is found mysteriously murdered, don't look for my whereabouts."

Doesn't that sound like Allan Palmer, the semi-illiterate Vincentian ex-policeman who was jailed in St Vincent for the attempted murder of Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves? To make bad matters worse, Palmer actually boasted about this initiative of his in an article dated January 3, 2010, on this very forum. And doesn't that sound like Vincentian Matthew Thomas of the NDP, who threatened "guerrilla warfare" if a Ralph Gonsalves' law suit is successful?

Republican Claim -- Obama Did Nothing

As I watched Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan address the Republican convention, I could not believe their ridiculously false claims that President Obama either did nothing, or made bad economic conditions worse in the USA.

Less than four years ago, Barack Obama inherited a country which was practically bankrupt. At the time, the USA was losing 750,000 jobs per month, the stock market was at an all time low of 7,949, and the threats of Al-Qaeda, the Taliban and Bin Laden were haunting the free world, sending cold shivers down their spines.

Today the stock market is at a high of 13,000, we have had 29 consecutive months of public sector job growth, and Bin Laden is history. ...And they say we are no better off than we were four years ago!?!

If a Republican president had those phenomenal achievements on his resume, the Republicans would have been singing a completely different tune. The S&P 500 Index increased nearly 59% from 805.22 to 1,280.26 in just the first two years. Today it is 1,399. The Obama administration, in just the first two years, added more jobs that George Bush did in eight years.

The reality in St Vincent and the Grenadines is a similar story regarding the ridiculous and untruthful claims of the NDP. In SVG we have witnessed an education revolution which has been acknowledged by the World Bank. We experienced a near miraculous improvement in the poverty level as verified by the British government. The IMF has confirmed St Vincent as being on track to economically outgrow even Barbados and the UK this year. Vincentians have heard the US government continuously and persistently trumpet our prime minister's praises, talents and abilities ....but the NDP simply refuses to acknowledge these realities. Instead, they prefer to rely on lies and deceptions in a vain attempt to attain illusive political power. "I wish them luck."

Factories Closed -- Employment Lost

At the Republican convention, lying Paul Ryan made the false assertion that President Obama presided over a Missouri auto manufacturing plant's closing, despite the presidents’ previously reassuring its employees that he would permit no such thing under his administration's watch. What Lying Ryan did not tell the convention though, was that the plant closed in December 2008 under President Bush's watch, while President Obama was inaugurated in January 2009.

In St Vincent, we remember the falsehood told by the NDP which ended up in court and concluded with them losing the case, and being fined for so doing. The lie was told that Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves took his mother on a trip to Rome and the Vatican to meet the Pope, ensuring that the Vincentian government paid for her trip. Nothing of the sort was true. The prime minister paid for his mother's vacation from his own resources. ..."Another NDP lie."

Conclusion

I have provided a few examples which show the remarkable similarities between the US Republican political party and the NDP in St Vincent.

My problem with the CCJ is the closeness of some of the Judges to GONSALVES, who also have MARXISM in their backgrounds, how many of the CCJ judges have a MARXIST background? Adrian Dudley Saunders was born in St. Vincent on 4th January 1954, the last of five children of the late Thomas Saunders and Theo Saunders.

Adrian Saunders attended St. Mary's Primary School and later St. Vincent Grammar School in St. Vincent where he was the Head Boy during the 1971-1972 academic year.

In 1972, Saint Vincent: Renwick Rose, Adrian Ellsworth, Adrian Saunders, Ralph Gonsalves, a group of Marxist-Leninist Social activists, founded ‘The Black Liberation Action Committee’ [BLAC]. A political activist group guided by Marxist-Leninist ideology. ...

In 1975: Saunders took the Bachelor of Laws (Honours) degree from the University of the West Indies (Cave Hill).

In 1977: Saunders attained the Legal Education Certificate of the Hugh Wooding Law School in Trinidad & Tobago, and was called to the Bar of St. Vincent & the Grenadines in that same year.

Between !977 and 1996: Saunders remained in private practice as barrister and solicitor.

In 1979, Adrian Saunders was a member of political party ULM of Saint Vincent. Renwick Rose, Marxist Social activist, founded the Youlou United Liberation Movement [YOULIMO]. A socialist group guided by Marxist-Leninist ideology, which called for the people’s ownership and control. Ralph Gonsalves and Adrian Saunders were members of the group.

From 1985 to 1994, Saunders served as a member of the Bar Council of the Eastern Caribbean Bar Association, while occupying the post of Secretary of the St. Vincent Bar Association during that same period.

In 1996, Saunders was appointed to act as a Judge of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court (ESCS). At the time of his appointment, he was the Senior Partner in the firm of Saunders & Huggins.

1997, CIA Report: Adrian Saunders is President of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines United People's Movement or UPM.

January 1997 Saunders was confirmed as a High Court Judge, being first assigned to the dependent territories of Montserrat and Anguilla. .

Between 2000 and 2004: Mr. Justice Saunders served as Chairman of the Judicial Education Institute of the ECSC.

From 2000 to 2004, Saunders sat as Chairman of the Ethics Committee of the ECSC, presiding over the development of a code of ethics for Judges of the Eastern Caribbean.

In 2001 Saunders was confirmed as a High Court Judge to St. Lucia

May 1st 2003, Saunders was appointed Justice of Appeal of the ESCS

June 2004, Saunders was appointed to act as Chief Justice of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court in the absence of Sir Dennis Byron who is on leave.

April 16th 2005, Saturday: Saunders was appointed as a Judge of the Caribbean Court of Justice. He took the oath of office as a Judge of the Caribbean Court of Justice at the Court's Inauguration Ceremony.

Since being appointed a Judge of the ECSC, Mr. Justice Saunders has been deeply involved in judicial reform in the Eastern Caribbean. He has been a faculty member of the Halifax-based Commonwealth Judicial Education Institute since 1998, and as such has regularly participated in judicial education programs for Judges from throughout the Commonwealth.

Off the Bench, Mr. Justice Saunders was President of the National Youth Council of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. He represented his country at table tennis on a number of occasions and for many years he was a member of the Executive of the St. Vincent & the Grenadines Table Tennis Association. He also served as Chairman of the St. Vincent Save the Children and as President of the St. Vincent Guild of Graduates.
