Letter: CCJ - The next Tony Awards!
Published on April 9, 2014 Email To Friend    Print Version

Dear Sir:

In the matter of Saint Lucia's seabed was it wrongly referenced in our constitution to the Governor-General that's why the Prime Minister Kenny Anthony had to sign the agreement himself? Talk about two people running this country -- Kenny and Tony!

See how well the term referendum is used in relation to the senate, cabinet undertakings, or simply as a two-thirds majority of parliament as the only true expression of it that those in office have come to think that it is wrongly referenced to the people.

It’s the same happening with political union and now with the CCJ, with a judiciary hand-picked or ill-referenced through political references with hardly any cross-reference of their suitability, which reads like an already ill-worded or wrongly referenced chapter of our country's history.

The CCJ is indeed the latest chapter of an already sad story of leaders in breach of the social contract with their people who they are expected to serve while upholding the most sacred tenets of democratic expressions and freedoms.

From an already tainted list of awards, the first received from assuming the leadership of the SLP while jumping carnival in Trinidad, to changing the term limits of his own party's constitution (once having served the stipulated two terms in office), to sidelining the Governor-General as the Queen's representative on constitutional matters.

And, now, the people of Saint Lucia in matters of replacing one appellant court with another -- in which instance the Privy Council with the CCJ. Kenny will stop at nothing in having his own way at more ill-gotten recognition. Now, introducing the CCJ as the next Tony Awards!
