Dear Sir:

I continued my reading with great expectation of parts two and three of the speech that was made by Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves on August 24, 2012, and after I completed the third part of Prime Minister (PM) Gonsalves address I am more convinced now, more than ever before that the editor of Caribbean News Now (CNN) did not choose to publish this because he thought the content was laced with such pertinent information that needed to be brought to the public’s attention. However, even with the previous explanation from the editor I am so much more convinced now, that the editor of the Caribbean News Now was strong handed by Ralph Gonsalves himself to have his speech published. Mr Editor, please do not feel pressured or the need to publish another explanation as it relate to your decision to publish PM’s Gonsalves’ speech because of my conviction.

You would have thought that, if the Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social and Economic studies extend an invitation to a PhD holding sitting prime minister to address student, faculty and guests of a department; then one will assume the audience would have consisted primarily of people who will become the future decision makers, policy makers and the implementers of programs and those who are teaching them how to do such with the objective of resolve future foreseen and unforeseen economic problem. From reading this speech one cannot help but to get the impression, the audience may have felt like the recipient of a premature orgasm. Unfortunately for the people at the presentation and the readers who were force to endure the regurgitation of already presented stats as it was, they may have been disappointed.

We waited in hopeless anticipation for an iota, a jot, a speck; a scrap, or a grain or solution to the mountain of problem Gonsalves saw it necessary to put forward; painting a hopeless picture of the present situation and for the future. unfortunately the PhD holding sitting prime minister, his presentation fail to justify his doctoral qualification, his post of current serving prime minister and accepting or strong handing himself into such an invitation; to address such diligent and studious audience as the ones he put forward this verbal onslaught of meaningless phraseology before or the intelligencer that make up the readers here on Caribbean News Now of which I am a part.

PM Gonsalves made my “self-appointed” responsibility to analyze his speech/commentary a very difficult one. Because there was not even a sentence or paragraph that constituted an original opinion, idea, suggestion, recommendation; thought or a demeaning brain fart of PM Ralph Gonsalves. However there are a few things I will like to deal with.

In addressing the St Vincent and the Grenadines experience, the PM made reference to a prolong drought not a severe drought that affect the country in the first part of 2010, he also said that this drought undermined the agriculture sector. To say this drought undermined the agricultural sector, is speaking without saying anything. What does this mean? Remember the drought was prolonged not severe so how was the sector undermined? This leaves me to ask, which crops were affected? How did the drought affect the crops? Was the drought responsible for the mal-development of the crops? Did it affected the yield? Did it cause the death of a high percentage of the crop? Did the drought affect the quantity and the quality of the yield? Or did it only cause the farmers and those who paid attentions to it the worries of serious impact? Just one example of his verbal onslaught of meaningless phraseology.

Since there were not any figures available and the abstract use of the word undermine to describe the impact the drought had on the agriculture sector, PM Gonsalves make it hard to co-relate the impact of drought to the damage Hurricane Tomas had on the banana industry. PM Gonsalves said Hurricane Tomas destroy 98% of the banana industry. This estimate leaves a lot of question that must be answered.

1. What percent of the banana industry did the drought affect?

2. Did the drought have a significant impact of the 98% damage that Tomas caused?

3. Did SVG export any banana for the year 2010?

4. If yes what percentage of the crop planted was exported?

Then he referred to the drought 2011 as a so-call and he put the word drought in inverted commas (the so-call “drought”). This play on words leave me to asked what message was Gonsalves subconsciously communicating in his writing when he use of the word so-call to describe the drought and the use of inverted commas (So-call “drought”), enclosing the word drought. Was he being sarcastic, was his subconscious purging itself of an overflow of verbal misrepresentation that have been flowing freely from the lips of the prime minister? Was this another lie Ralph E. Gonsalves told as it relates to the effect the so-call “drought” had on the economy of St Vincent and the Grenadines and his subconscious was making room for those lies that had already been planed? I wonder.

In addressing the St Vincent situation, the prime minister did not address how the mismanagement of the nations resources in the form of dedicating state funds to party hack, to use the printed, audio and audio-visual media to ensure the economic malpractice, foolish squandering of state funds, deplorable social and other behaviour are defended, and how such squandering of money have bankrupted the state won National Commercial Bank and the marketing corporation; both interties symbols of Vincentian national pride which now has majority ownership that is S. Lucians.

What about the continued and secret extraction of fund from the National Insurance Scheme (NIS); which is the nest egg of the working class to ensure they have medical insurance and are able to go into retirement without any means of keeping a roof over their heads clothes on their back and food to fight of the pains of hunger. Yet the working class investment in their future are redirected in to none-returnable projects (Projects that are not expected to yield a profit that can repay the loans) such as to build the international airport, pay salaries, do capital projects and to give out as loan.
I now declare that I give up on this self appointed venture.

In leaving I pray that the love, Grace, mercies and bountiful blessing of the Almighty God Yahweh be with you all now and forever.

I have to wonder who is playing on words here or is this another blatant attempt to mis-lead the public and the readers by spreading lies? I went to the source article to verify what you were saying and found that this is what the comrade actually said “Then in April 2011, in the midst of the so-called “Dry Season”, torrential rains and landslides caused physical damage, of almost biblical proportions, to roads, bridges, rivers, houses, and agricultural cultivation in the north-east of St Vincent”. I keep hearing people mentioned the word “Bankrupt very loosely and since I’m of an accounting/auditing background I really wonder if it still means what I think it means so I went to Wikipedia again for assistance.

In the normal sense of understanding, when an institution or an individual has more liabilities than assets and cannot honour their commitment to their suppliers then they are considered bankrupt. 2. If yes, who local person you know have the financial backing to purchase the divested interest?

Ahhmmmm I may be ignorant to this, but can any reader advise on the statement that the NIS provides medical Insurance? I have never seen or heard of anyone submitting claims for medical expenses to the NIS for proportional reimbursement. From what I know the NIS provides Social Security Services, so if that is the case I stand corrected.

Now on the matter of the continued and secret extraction of funds from NIS (National Insurance Services not Scheme”, the last time I checked the organization is being audited on a yearly basis by independent external auditors of the firm KPMG. So by your statement are you implying that:

1. The auditors are not capable of picking this up and commenting on it in their management letter or even stating that the NIS is not a “Going Concern”?
2. The auditors know about this and are turning a blind eye to it?

Allan stop misleading the public. The NIS has assets in excess of $400 million and liabilities just less than $4 Million with the difference being made up by reserves. Is this an ailing company?

Drought is curable; I studied agriculture expensively and I am using empirical evidence to say that when a drought occurs irrigation is the prescription for the lack of precipitation.

Why are Vincentians manipulated? Do they really believe that we do not have enough sense to know what’s happening around us?

Yet there are ‘died-hard’ supporters of this regime that consistently showcase their arrogance. You wonder, if these loyalist worshipped God the way they are worshipping their political god, imagine how decent they would be and how the world would be one nice place to live.

How can they fool us into believing the reason for the depletion of the agriculture sector is because of drought! SVG has rivers that run during a drought – Irrigation is the medicine for such climatic challenge.

Moreover, they do not believe in their own so-called ‘education revolution?’ Now that so many Vincentians are educated and can think and analyze a situation for themselves; yet they pursue the ‘manipulation’ strategy.

Peter, Palmer, do not ask Vincentians to wake up, they are awake it’s a matter of time before they do what they have to do at the polls to remove the demagogues and replace them with ‘sound-minded’ Vincentians.
