Letter: A genteel 'high tea' party turned cat fight in Allen's UWP
Published on February 3, 2014 Email To Friend    Print Version

Dear Sir:

I thought it was better to look forward to the reopening of the cockfighting den in Desruisseaux, a real Sunday afternoon pastime. Well, who tell me say that the United PAC and Women in Action (WIA), Allen’s cheerleaders and gravediggers, are well ahead of my expectations.

Their Super Bowl took place on Sunday, January 26, when Leonne Theodore John (Allen’s shadow minister of national security), held a genteel “high tea” party at her home to honour Dr Gale Rigobert, the new leader of the opposition (LOO), in Saint Lucia. In case you’re wondering, the “LOO, tom-girl” took office February 1, following a palace coup two weeks ago against Stephenson King.

Some of us have seen quite a bit. Nowadays, it’s totally different, especially what went down at the genteel “high tea” party, with WIA, PAC, Allen’s cheerleaders and the men in attendance. Oh, yes Allen’s men, the gravediggers came and, of course, Allen’s wife Rachel Chastanet was sitting pretty, or so she thought. King’s wife was apparently not invited, go figure! Nancy Charles had Dale Eliot nice and cozy; Al Landers was there, the head honcho general secretary Oswald Augustine, and Dr Owen Gabriel, prospective candidate for Castries East for UWP.

The stage was set waiting to toast “LOO, tom-girl”, but few knew that some had a fight to pick and others to show their true colors. In short order, the loose-lipped Catherine Sealys (a former SLP operative turned UWP overnight), now leader of the PAC, jumped about with excitement, “Well, it’s woman power and I am supporting Gale,” kissing up, about her high regard for “LOO, tom-girl”, only to have deputy chairperson Mary Polius address her as Rigobaldhead, at which point “LOO, tom-girl” took offence. I guess the men did not take offence to women power and baldhead, or were they converted to attend a genteel “high tea” party!

Next came the hostess and Petra Nelson, WIA president, singing praises like a modern day preacher, invoking God's spirit and reminding Rigobert that the sky was the limit, and that she had their support to go to the next level, which meant, the Friday prayer warriors said, political leader and then prime minister. Ouch… Allen’s wife blew a fuse!

Allen’s wife could not believe what she just heard and took offence. It feels like an offensive genteel “high tea” party now! She made haste to the nearest exit to walk out… but, when asked if she had something to say, she said all that she had to say to Gale was already said and thanked them so far for their support to her husband! Yes, madam would not have any of that; she walked out mad as hell. Wounded like a bloody hen in a cockfight.

The gravediggers looked helpless. I guess she was reaping what Allen Chastanet sowed, deceit and confusion, without a stomach to stand up and fight. Unlike Catherine Sealys, who stood up the best way she knows how, to say, “I don’t understand the ‘white bitch’; can't she see that Gale would win an election faster than her husband?”

Whoop…..Sa CHO, woman power for sure turning against Allen Chastanet like they did against Stephenson King.

The regrets within Allen’s UWP are cooking, even if “LOO, tom-girl” tried her best on DBS television last Wednesday to talk a talk she cannot walk. The history of women in the UWP is one that both Catherine Sealys and “LOO, tom-girl” should spend some time to review, dating back to 1974.

So either way you look at Allen’s UWP, they are as unconscious as a rooster in a cockfight well rub-up with bounty rum, (the spirit of St Lucia) and still unable to revive. By the way, with Chairman Ezechiel Joseph accusing Lydia Faisal of being Tori Fatal, I understand why Allen’s best investment is “division” when you have Catherine Sealys as chief cook and bottle washer.

Oh, and before I forget, Leonne Theodore John (Allen’s shadow minister of national security) may need “LOO, tom-girl” to explain what happen to the lawyers in Allen’s camp and the UWP. Just like Kenny Anthony, who believes in foreign talent ahead of locals, Allen Chastanet is no different. My three yellow birds have given me the nod that Allen is importing a legal team from Barbados to defend him in the civil matter brought against him by the attorney general of Saint Lucia, accusing him of acting in a manner that amounts to “breach of his fiduciary duties as a minister of government, in bad faith and/or constitutes misfeasance in public office.”

At my age, even if I need a little excitement now and then to keep my circulation in check, the political novice, doctors and lawyers in Allen’s UWP, have me going. The infighting and cat fights have just started. May the fittest survive! Cheers to “LOO, tom-girl.”
