Letter: Welcome Back Lexi and Groovy D
Published on June 14, 2014 Email To Friend    Print Version

Dear Sir:

With Vincy Mas in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) heating up, I have to give a heartfelt welcome back to Lexi and to Groovy D. Well, it’s nice to have these two brothers with us for Vincy Mas 2014. Their insights into social issues in SVG are legendary within the calypso arena. Make that the kaiso arena!

Lexi, the man from up on the big hill, gives us some real classic kasios. He told us all about his community with, “Tribute to Sion Hill”! Boy, “arwe” champion runner Bigna say “she” nose swell, when Lexi called Sion Hill and “she” name in “he” kaiso! Lexi further stated that this is “Arwe Land” and a sense of pride is needed here in this island!

So true man! So true! We need a sense of pride in this land of the Blessed, arwe Hairouna!

I remembered when Lexi came with, “Ease up fisherman” and how the whole country laughed with his presentation. The same could not be said about his, “Red Rats”! Boy, they were digging horrors! Was Lexi wrong on both occasions? Hell no!

Steaming out of the ghetto with a name indentifying the pain of the people, “Dread Condition” rumbled on the scene. “Dread Condition” kicked the roof off the Lyrics Cinema and the doors off Victoria Park and went right up the charts in SVG with “Frustration killing we”!

Highlighting the social issues confronting a young nation and its’ people, “Dread Condition” took no prisoners. Today, it seems like frustration is killing the nation, as young men are constantly gunned down and rape trending.

Then with a name change to “Groovy Dready aka Groovy D”, he said get the “Big Rat” out the house! Get it out right now! Get it out, get it out! Get it out!

Groovy D continued his message to the people with, “See me and come live with me”! Taking a page from the old people saying, “See me and come live with me, ah two different things”! Like Groovy D, we all want true unity for SVG!

I must say congrats to Lexi and Groovy D for stepping back into the kaiso arena! Thanks guys, I look forward each year for your contributions to the art form.

Stay connected for the upcoming letter, Kaiso! Kaiso! Vincy Kaiso 2014!

Peace and justice and enjoy Vincy Mas 2014.
