Letter: To lie... or not to lie? That is the (pertinent) question

Print Version | Dear Sir:
On January 17, 2012, Markie Spring wrote an article on this forum entitled "Reconciliation: A sacrament of penance and paramount from the heart". In this article, Spring obviously moved out of his comfort zone and complimented the Vincentian prime minister for his attempt at reconciling with the opposition regarding already proven legal charges of defamation.
Spring, to his credit (in this case), was honestly complimenting the prime minister on his desire to work hand-in-hand with the opposition. Despite the fact that Spring and I constantly spar with each other, he really bit his pride and ate humble pie when he publicly admitted that Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves was/is a politician of exceptional class.
To hear Markie Spring refer to Ralph Gonsalves as "our Prime Minister" made Allan Palmer mad... so mad that Palmer was led to write an open letter to Markie Spring three days later chastising Spring for speaking the truth. Forget Palmer though, he went to jail by his own admission, for attempting to kill the prime minister, Ralph Gonsalves. Palmer has an axe to grind...
In the very beginning of his post, Spring made the point that "our Prime Minister had a better and different way of welcoming in the new year." I prefer to give Spring the benefit of the doubt and say that he is being genuine in his praise of the prime minister. Ralph Gonsalves deserves it.
Spring seemed so convinced that the prime minister was on the right track, that he used several complimentary phrases to describe Dr Ralph Gonsalves. Here is a small sampling of how highly Spring spoke of the honourable gentleman and his impression of the PM's graciousness and generosity.
1) "When my sources delivered this JOYFUL NEWS, I was filled with AWE."
2) "There is NO OTHER LEADER IN THE ENTIRE WORLD that has started the new year with such reverence."
3) "Looking at the PM as he delivered that PROFOUND STATEMENT."
4) "He seemed so CALM, collected and most evidently SINCERE in his speech."
5) "Mr PM, I ADORE YOUR SINCERITY."
6) "I APPLAUDED the PM's effort."
7) "The PM STARTED this journey."
8) "Let US SUPPORT the cause regardless of affiliation."
9) "I give the PM THREE THUMBS UP."
10) "Let us move forward TOGETHER."
Unfortunately, Spring spoiled the article with his comments that followed.
Spring had the asinine audacity to suggest that the prime minister's decision to attempt reconciliation with the opposition was the result of his (Spring's) suggestion! "What stupidity, what conceit !?!"
Eustace rejects PM Gonsalves offer to drop court cases!
If Spring was really as convinced as he sounded, regarding Ralph Gonsalves being on the right course, then would he, Spring, now condemn Eustace for rejecting the prime minister's attempt at reconciliation?
This is not the first time Ralph Gonsalves stretched his hand out to the opposition, attempting to resolve the differences between the parties. The PM did this in December 2010 after our last election, and Eustace responded by refusing to recognize the newly-formed ULP government. In fact, in January, February and March, Eustace and the NDP protested by holding back-to-back demonstrations in Kingstown. Eustace and the opposition even went to the extent of disobeying and disrespecting the Speaker of the House on March 3, 2011.
After every election since 2001, Ralph Gonsalves stretched out the olive branch to the opposition, and they have constantly and consistently refused to reciprocate. How then, could Gonsalves and the ULP be blamed for the obvious political divide and breakdown in discipline in Vincentian society?
One observation on Markie Spring, though.
Spring told us, "WHEN my sources delivered this joyful news, I was filled with awe." I believed him, because I know that he does not live in St Vincent and he receives his information from tainted external sources. I have a problem with that, since he tries to give the impression (false) that he is delivering his pronouncements FIRST HAND.
Herein lies the real problem with Spring though. He goes on to say, "Looking at the PM as he delivered that statement..."
I shook my head and asked myself… (1) did Spring actually LOOK at the PM… or (2) did his SOURCES DELIVER the information to him?
With Markie Spring, you just never know...

Simon Anderson, out of fairness, I must totally disagree with your (above) statement.
I am sure Basinhole Prime Minister would not expect me to to intervene on his behalf.
Simon Anderson, the video clip of the PM's statement in Parliament was all over the place, and specifically on SVG TV News. I even had the clip posted on my FB Page.
You now owe Mr. Spring an apology. Failing that, you should not expect him to honour your many requests/demands.
However I must thank you for the very well written account of Spring's praised he showered on "the Great Leader".
So Basinhole Prime Minister, what position are you really after? |
| Simon Anderson:
Wade, I understand your disagreement with me -- that is no problem. However, there are several considerations here.
The following is not meant for you, Wade, they are general matters/questions we all need to ask ourselves.
1) Spring NEVER SAID that he saw a video clip of the Prime Minister's statement.
2) Does Spring owe me, and the readers of this forum a LONG OVERDUE apology for the lie he told on December 6th, 2010 regarding political violence in Chateaubelair?
Should that be the case, shouldn't we as readers, be calling on Spring to apologize FIRST?
3) Does Spring owe the readers of this forum an apology for ALL OF THE LIES he continues to spread about there not being an education revolution in SVG?
4) Does Spring owe the readers an apology for his lies regarding his not having any political party affiliation?
5) Does Spring owe the readers an apology for STEALING JOEL OSTEEN'S SERMON and regurgitating it on this forum pretending they were his own ideas?
Wade, here is an example of us "disagreeing," without being disagreeable.
Thanks Wade, for your sentiments regarding my "very well written account of Spring's praises which he showered on 'the Great Leader.'" |

@ Simon Anderson:
Simon we have no disagreement, except on the portion of your post I have already commented on.
Again, my friend, Markie Spring does not have to state that he saw the video clip. It was/is available to the whole world and I remain convinced that Spring not only had access to the video clip in question but he looked at it. Trust me, like Allan Palmer, I am a former Police Officer and still have my investigative skills.
There is no big thing here. Let us not be too big to make mistakes and acknowledge same.
I am no fan of Markie Spring aka Basinhole Prime Minister. In fact I am one of his biggest critics on CNN and elsewhere. He may hold me as his enemy. That is his right. But I will defend the right of even my biggest enemy.
Perhaps Spring owes you and other readers, including myself, an apology. However, until you do the right thing and offer an apology to Spring for your statement made here, I will not be looking for any from him (Spring).
Peace, Love and Justice. |
| Simon Anderson: Wade, I think the 2010 apology is due LONG BEFORE the one for 2012.
In fact, I did Spring no wrong at all.
I made NO STATEMENT.
I simply asked the QUESTION "(1)Did Spring actually look at the PM, or (2)did his sources deliver the information to him?"
I was never a Police Officer, but I have natural investigative skills. So much so, that Spring himself has actually complimented me on my INSIGHT on this very forum.

@ Simon Anderson:
Mr. Anderson, exactly what did you mean/imply here:
"...Herein lies the real problem with Spring though. He goes on to say, "Looking at the PM as he delivered that statement..."
I shook my head and asked myself... (1) did Spring actually LOOK at the PM... or (2) did his SOURCES DELIVER the information to him?
With Markie Spring, you just never know..."
Like yo ah come like Basinhole Prime Minister now?
Mi done!!!!
Peace, Love and Justice. |
| Simon Anderson:
Wade, "Mi done," too.
I believe that we are on the same team, and I will NOT fight with you in public as a result. We have too many "natural enemies" for you and I to oppose each other on any matter (ESPECIALLY IN PUBLIC).
My lips are sealed.
Peace, Love and Justice |

Evidently, the simple aka 'simon', shameless henchman of the Copycat 'comrade', seems like a spoiled-brat INFANT, here: "AH HE FUS." --- Is he who FIRST hit me. Bah, bah, bah.....
Sounds like an INFANTILE display I SAW in parliament recently, with a certain OLD GOAT marxist-LENINIST trying to PUT ON A SHOW to dupe us that he was technically literate and au fait with the times. He brief-catch some arcane techno-term, and loudly make a noisome display blandishing it about. THE COPYCAT IS AN OLD FUDDY-DUDDY, and seriously losing his marbles --- poste-haste. Do hang on like the other I-man One-man, and end up pitiously BARLING LIKE A HELPLESS INFANT IN PUBLIC, whether you are Simple... or the unapologetic COPYCAT 'call me comrade'. |
