Letter: St Valentine's Day a cover for prejudice
Published on February 16, 2012      Print Version

Dear Sir:

Paul Kokoski likes to spread his fiction far and wide. His latest letter, ostensibly about St Valentine, was also published in Ireland, Antigua, Bahamas, Barbados, England, Jamaica, and in various online venues.

Unfortunately for Mr Kokoski, the “Irish Times” published a reply (February 15) from a professor of ancient history who exposed a list of errors Mr Kokoski had added to a tale that was already “an absurd fiction from beginning to end”.

But such sloppy scholarship is characteristic of a man with a long history of writing letters full of vile falsehoods about homosexuals, based on misrepresented statistics and discredited sources.

This time rather than bash gays directly, he uses his fairy tale as an excuse to take a swipe at secular humanists for attacking “the traditional definition of marriage”, a veiled reference to current debate about same-sex unions.

Such is to be expected of a paranoid zealot who cries “religious persecution” because some have the temerity to oppose his pious bigotry.

How sad that even a quaint, romantic tradition, like St Valentine’s Day, has become a cover for his prejudice.

andrew allen:

I agree entirely with the writer of this letter. I have often wondered who this Mr. Kokoski is, as he continues to litter our newspapers in the Bahamas with his ignorant religious nonsense.

I wish the writer of this letter could shadow Mr. Kokoski and answer all his horrid letters in our local press.
