Dear Sir:
We are taking the timely opportunity of writing this letter to your newspaper in the wake of the aftermath of hurricane ‘Sandy’ in order to draw attention to a Social and Economic Intervention Policy Proposal which we (RCFJ Forum and Watchdog Group) hand delivered to the government of Jamaica (“the GOJ”) two days shy of seven months ago.
We hope you will help us bring public awareness to this proposal, since we strongly believe its full implementation could help to effect real change for Jamaica.
We believe that despite any conditionalities the IMF may impose on Jamaica, should there be an agreement reached with that multilateral institution, given the economic realities of the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, it (the IMF) would be hard-pressed to prohibit the full implementation of a government policy such as JELDIP. As such, we hope the GOJ will muster up the requisite *political will* to implement JELDIP or a similar social and economic intervention policy.
