Letter: How do you spot a liar?
Published on December 18, 2012 Email To Friend    Print Version

Dear Sir:

Have you ever wondered why Ralph Gonsalves tells lies? I'm not talking about 'white lies', as almost every person on the planet has told those. We are talking about lies that divert the truth.

What is rather interesting is that Gonsalves actually admitted to us in Parliament that he tells lies. He also told us “show me a liar and I will show you a thief”.

Really there is no easy way of actually defining what a lie is. If someone misses out some information, is that a lie, or just selective truth. The very omission can turn that into a mistruth of sorts. Telling us about what is going on in CARICOM, telling us about what is happening in the OECS, deliberately not telling us what is happening in ALBA, that kind of thing. Of course if someone tells you a lie and you already know the truth and have evidence of such. That is what you call catching them red handed, which is a handle especially applicable to Marxists.

If someone asks a question to which an outright answer made with a mistruth, then they are what is known as a 'bare faced liar'.

There are people out there that really can't help but lie. These people are known as pathological liars. These individuals want their lives to sound more exciting than the reality, or they want to impress, so they make up the most far-fetched lies you've ever heard.

Another common reason people lie is to get out of a sticky situation. The lie being told is preferential to the consequences of telling the truth. Once someone knows that telling lies is easier than telling the truth, it can become habitual. Sticky situation? No problem, I'll just tell a lie and skip down the road with joy. In the end someone doing this regularly can end up believing their own mistruths.

Maybe some people lie to gain more respect from people that are important to them. Perhaps from their social group or colleagues at work. A lie to 'outdo' is often expressed in a society which relies on social status.

So how do you spot a liar?

Well, other than unintelligent liars who come out with things so farfetched you just have to laugh, there are a few other ways. You need a good memory to be a liar so you know what you've said to whom. Often their sins will find them out, but a good visual clue is their body language. Look out for exaggerated gestures or a shift in the tone of that person’s voice. Eyes are the windows of our souls and many people cannot look you in the eye properly when telling a lie. They will shift their gaze so as not to engage in direct eye contact. Often when public speaking and telling lies, turning the head to the right and looking over the shoulder as if seeking confirmation from someone behind them. Liars often think hard as they are telling lies and need to pause for what seems extended periods, these pause period are because they are writing the lies in their minds, or recalling the lie as they previously rendered it.

As a little research thing I put into the Bing search engine, “Ralph Gonsalves tells lies”, there were 17,600 results found on the subject.

I then tried the same on AOL and got 704,000 results.

I then Googled it and got 174,000 results.

That’s a pretty serious matter for the leader of a country, albeit not any bigger than a small American town.

Try it for yourselves; the man is famous.

John:

I responded to an article yesterday when i spoke about "grumpy old men" in society who have nothing better to do and Mr. Binose falls into that category today again.

So i took up your challenge for as we say "for argument sake" and put in "Ralph Gonsalves tells lies" into the search engine and voila i got the results that you spoke about so i guess you are speaking the truth.

Your third paragraph says this;

Now Peter, you failed to tell the readers of this forum how a search engine like google, aol and the likes operate. So is this you tell a half truth or a lie.

I also did a search for "Peter Binose Tells Lies" and got 620 hits. Does that say that you are a liar to?

Just incase you didnt know peter when you enter a query into a search engine it gives you hits not for the entire phrase alone but also for a combination of 2 or more words of the same phrase.

So for example on google a lot of the hits relate to articles that the following words were mentioned in it:

- Ralph
- Gonsalves
- Tells
- Lies

Even if the articale had in only Ralph and Lies inside of it, it will be a hit according to the search engine.

So can you with a straight face say that you hypothesis is correct or are you telling a lie?

Peter:

Thank you John for your comment. I added the following section to my letter two days after I wrote the letter. I admit it can be to a certain degree somewhat misleading, but those are still the statistics.

"As a little research thing I put into the Bing search engine, “Ralph Gonsalves tells lies”, there were 17,600 results found on the subject".

"I then tried the same on AOL and got 704,000 results".

"I then Googled it and got 174,000 results".

"That’s a pretty serious matter for the leader of a country, albeit not any bigger than a small American town".

"Try it for yourselves; the man is famous".

Putting that aside, GONSALVES is still a self confessed liar. There are many examples of lies he tells. There are even examples of lies that he wrote.

Your label regarding grumpy old men, do you apply that because we are exposing the truth? Should we keep quiet and say nothing?

I have commented on some of your writings in the past. You have made some pretty stupid comments, and your support for Marxism has been well noted.

Peter:

Dear VIN, I thought you didn't want to associate your behavior with the type that Simon Anderson renders from time to time.

HI! VIN, JUST TRYING TO HELP WITH YOUR NEW PROPOSED BUSINESS VENTURE.

1. “Peter was once closely associated with Ralph Gonsalves. Therefore, s/he has intimate knowledge of the PM and his character“.
NOT THAT CLOSE BUT CLOSE ENOUGH

2. The PM and Peter had a falling out perhaps due to the PM failure or omission to appoint "Peter" to a plum overseas position after the ULP got into power.
TOTALLY INCORECT.

3. Peter pretends to be in SVG. However, Peter may be writing from Washington, DC.
NEVER BEEN TO WASHINGTON, CLOSEST THE PUBLIC RECORDS OFFICE AT MARYLAND, RESEARCHING MAURCE BISHOP AND THE GRENADA REVOLUTION.

4. Peter and the PM shares legal education. But Peter has never practiced law or been admitted to practice in any jurisdiction.
THE PM AND I HAVE NEVER SHARED ANYTHING, EXCEPT A TABLE ON MANY OCCASIONS.

5. Peter has some health science training and experience. Try Googling "Binose" and see what appears.
TOTALLY INCORECT

6.Peter harps against Marxism ..... hmm. That is quite politically expedient as members of Peter's family might have benefited from Cuban education scholarships negotiated by the SVG government.
I DISLIKE MARXISM AND ALL THOSE THAT FOLLOW IT. NO MEMBER OF MY FAMILY, CLOSE OR EXTENDED, HAS EVER STUDIED IN CUBA.

7. Is Peter a Capitalist? Is Peter a Marxist? Is Peter a Man? Is Peter a Woman? Is Peter a Liar? Is Peter a Christian?
I AM NOT A MARXIST OR EVER DABBLED IN IT AS A YOUTH.

VIN, THIS TYPE OF CLAIRVOYANCE PROBING OR PROFILING MAY BE THE BASIS FOR YOUR NEW BUSINESS THAT YOU WANT TO SET UP IN SVG.

ONLY THING IS YOU NEED LOTS OF PRACTICE, BECAUSE YOUR NOT VERY GOOD AT IT.

Vin Samuel:

John:

While I decline to get in a fight between Gonsalves and the Pseudonym "Peter Binose" I suspect that:

1. Peter was once closely associated with Ralph Gonsalves. Therefore, s/he has intimate knowledge of the PM and his character.
2. The PM and Peter had a falling out perhaps due to the PM failure or ommission to appoint "Peter" to a plum overseas position after the ULP got into power.
3. Peter pretends to be in SVG. However, Peter may be writing from Washington, DC.
4. Peter and the PM shares legal education. But Peter has never practised law or been admitted to practise in any jurisdiction.
5. Peter has somhealth science training and experience. Try googling "Binose" and see what appears.
6.Peter harps against Marxism ..... hmm. That is quite politically expedient as members of Peter's family might have benefitted from Cuban education scholarships negotiated by the SVG government.
7. Is Peter a Capitalist? Is Peter a Marxist? Is Peter a Man? Is Peter a Woman? Is Peter a Liar? Is Peter a Christian?
As the good book says: Let him who has not sinned cast the first stone!

Best regards,

Vinci vin

STEVE_HUGGINS:

Marxist-Leninists are NAKED, BOLD-FACED, BOLD-FACED LIARS.

Ask renwick . . .

And, the COPYCAT comrade . . .

Vin Samuel:

Dear Peter:

Wild speculations, character assasinations, fixations on political idealogies, etc from any source tend to be boring and burdensome. However, my post made its intended points .... the stones we throw at others can richocet to knock us out. Marx, Lenin and Bishop are smiling at you for doing such a great job of keeping their out-dated idealogies alive.

Best regards,

Vinci Vin

Peter:

VIN, how about GONSALVES, is he smiling?

They would be boring if they were not currently creating such a disaster for SVG.

VIN, sorry but if you think that revealing the truth keeps their outdated ideoligies alive, those idealogies would be rampant if some of the people that come here didn't expose the truth.

Those ideaologies are very much alive and those using them try to hide their true actions, thats part of MARXISM.

I must also mention that your elequence put to one side, you are guilty of "wild speculations and character assasinations", you have attempted to do that to me, in a previous post. You tried to sow the seed of untruth about my character, whereabouts, education and, family name. Remember that my clairvoyant friend.

Most of the people who I write about have destroyed their own character, who else but an idiot would tell the people “ I tell lies sometimes” “show me a liar and I will show you a thief” “I only do Obeah for the Lord” “I am here to finish the work of Maurice Bishop”

And your support VIN for such morons, makes you worse than them.

Sorry to seem rude VIN, you come across as quite a nice person, misguided perhaps. I would like to say stupid, but I am sure your far from that.

Vin Samuel:

Dear Peter:

Do you have to shout out loud every time you write my name "VIN"? I can disagree with you and your methods of attacking others without actually supporting those you attack. Actually, I tend not to disagree with anyone 100 percent of the time.

Do you arise each day to denigrate those you see as "Morons" whose political actions and ideologies are diametrically different from yours? If so, what useful outcomes do you expect?

Do you believe that the ULP is shipping SVG to "Hades in a hand basket" as the saying goes? If so, what are your suggestions to cure the ills of the ULP? Certainly, you do not believe that you can influence the political climate in SVG by your perpetual railings against Gonsalves and his alleged Marxist/Lennist designs on SVG?

Now, let's assume that the two major parties in SVG are operating in an open democratic system and that the leaders of both parties (ULP and NDP) are searching for answers and tools to enhance the lives of the Vincentian citizenry, what would you do differently from those leaders and their respective party to obtain the desired result of a better future for Vincentians?

What kind of democracy would you like to see in SVG? You have berated the ULP's brand of democracy, what does the NDP have to offer that is different and/or more potent than what the ULP has been offering?

Do you believe that the private sector holds the answer to economic development of SVG and the OECS? If so, would you propose that the private sector operate under the US capitalist system or underthe Chinese Communist/Capitalist hybrid system?

If not, what is your alternative?

remember, no shouting ... vinci vin will suffice.

regards,

Vinci Vin

Peter:

VIN, please answer all the questions that you ask me yourself, then I will put my answers forward which I have already written.
