KINGSTON, Jamaica -- Philip Paulwell, minister of science, technology, energy and mining will be the guest speaker at the Development Bank of Jamaica’s GreenBiz Energy Fair on Friday, October 12, in New Kingston.

The Energy Fair brings together dozens of energy suppliers, small and medium-sized enterprises, banks, energy consulting firms, non-governmental organizations and government agencies to display energy saving and renewable products and services.

It will feature interactive demonstrations of energy-efficient technologies displaying the benefits of renewable systems such as wind turbines, solar brooder systems, DV vs. AC power inverters and solar photovoltaic converters. Exhibitors will show visitors how to cut energy costs at home and work, and how to finance energy efficiency projects.

“The Energy Fair will embrace business, consumers, NGOs and other stakeholders to share ideas and best practices in sustainable energy,” says DBJ project coordinator Christopher Brown. “We hope this event will increase people’s awareness about the environment and how embracing alternative energy sources will benefit everyone.”

The Fair is the signature event of the DBJ GreenBiz, a project launched last June to give small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) technical and financial assistance in energy efficiency, conservation and renewable energy. The joint DBJ/ Inter-American Development Bank initiative is a direct response to high energy costs that is crippling many SMEs. The project helps businesses get cheaper and environment-friendly sources of power, and to save money.
