Jamaica seeks to boost airlift

KINGSTON, Jamaica (JIS) -- As part of efforts by Jamaica’s Ministry of Tourism to boost airlift, particularly out of the northeast tri-state area of the United States, director of tourism, John Lynch, will leave the island this weekend for the Fifth Routes Americas Conference in Nassau, Bahamas.

The conference, which will last from February 19 to 21, brings together all the major airlines and key players in the industry from the Caribbean, and North, Central, and South America to plan their deployment for the year ahead.

Making the disclosure on Wednesday at the weekly press briefing, Minister of Tourism and Entertainment, Dr Wykeham McNeill, said the ministry will also hold discussions on airlift with officials in Germany and Russia in March.

Meanwhile, Lynch said the ministry has plans in place to grow airlift out of a number of areas, such as Latin America. Additionally, he said the ministry is also seeking to cut into the Texan market again, and has settled a contract with a Texas charter company for flights from Dallas to Montego Bay for 10 weeks out of the year.
