International sales of Havana cigars increase
Published on February 28, 2013 Email To Friend    Print Version

HAVANA, Cuba (ACN) -- International sales of Havana cigars grew by 6 percent in 2012 as compared to the previous year, according to information provided on Tuesday by industry executives.

A total turnover of $416 million of the famous cigars had been recorded at the end of December, pointed out Ana Lopez, director for Operational Marketing of the Habanos S.A. Company, in statements to the press covering the 15th International Havana Cigar Festival, currently underway in the Cuban capital.

Meanwhile, Cuba has launched two new shapes of the famous Montecristo cigar brand to meet the growing and varied demand of clients.

The new products known as Petit No. 2 and Double Edmundo have an attractive design, with the first one aimed at smokers who prefer fast-burning cigars, made from filler and binders selected at the famous Vuelta Abajo tobacco-growing zone, in the western Cuban province of Pinar del Rio.

The Petit No.2 is marketed in classic boxes with 25 and 10 cigars each, as well as in two-cigar pocket cases.

Meanwhile, the Double Edmundo is a bigger cigar shape that provides about a one-hour smoke. This one comes in Semi-Boite boxes with 25 and 10 units with a cover protecting the cigars and a label identifying it.

Participants at the Habano Festival were due to visit tobacco-leaf plantations on Wednesday, where they will learn of the everyday work of the women and men who cultivate the renowned Cuban product.
