Guyana to host ECLAC meeting this week
Published on July 8, 2013 Email To Friend    Print Version

GEORGETOWN, Guyana -- The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) sub-regional headquarters for the Caribbean will convene the sixteenth meeting of the monitoring committee of the Caribbean Development and Cooperation Committee (CDCC) on 11 July 2013 in Georgetown, Guyana.

The executive secretary of ECLAC, Alicia Bárcena, is scheduled to deliver opening remarks at the meeting, which will review the 2012-2013 biennial work programme being implemented by ECLAC in the Caribbean. The meeting will also discuss preparations for the upcoming implementation of the 2014-2015 programme of work.

In addition to this, delegates of ECLAC member and associate member states in the sub-region will consider the outcomes of two major meetings; the Caribbean regional preparatory meeting for the 2014 third international conference on small island developing states (SIDS), which was held in Jamaica last week; and the Caribbean Forum on Population, Migration and Development, which is due to be held earlier this week on 9-10 July 2013, also in Georgetown.

The committee will also take this opportunity to welcome its new associate members, namely, Bermuda, Curaçao, Guadeloupe and Martinique, and will explore with them opportunities for more meaningful engagement in the programme of work of ECLAC.
