Guyana, Trinidad engage in discussion for oil and gas support
Published on January 31, 2013 Email To Friend    Print Version

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (GINA) -- Guyana’s Natural Resources and the Environment Minister, Robert Persaud on Wednesday met with Minister of Energy and Energy Affairs of Trinidad and Tobago, Kevin Ramnarine, to further bilateral discussions on the future development of Guyana’s oil and gas sector.

Persaud’s visit was at the invitation of Ramnarine to share Trinidad’s experiences and to extend support to build Guyana’s capacity and skills. As such a technical team will finalise a memorandum of cooperation between Guyana and Trinidad by the end of February to formalise training, support for the private sector and technical assistance.

The Trinidad minister of energy and energy affairs expressed support for Guyana’s efforts to develop a sustainable and environmentally friendly oil and gas sector.

Meanwhile, Persaud participated at the Trinidad and Tobago Energy Conference, Tradeshow and Green Energy Day to highlight the country’s well developed hydrocarbon and petrochemical sectors. The conference also featured discussions on the emerging Guyana/Suriname basin and new opportunities in renewable energy in the region.

The conference is an annual event that forges new business relationships and strategic alliances through networking, technical workshops and trade shows to focus on renewable energy and energy efficiency.
