Parliamentary Opposition: Standing (L_R) Vance Amory (CCM), Eugene Hamilton (PAM) and Mark Brantley (CCM). Seated (L-R): Shawn Richards (PAM), Sam Condor (PLP) and Timothy Harris (PLP)

BASSETERRE, St Kitts (WINN) -- The combined parliamentary opposition in St Kitts and Nevis, which is attempting to evolve into a unity partnership, was on Tuesday blasted for what’s seen as a delay in announcing just which elected MP is the leader of the arrangement.
On his “Ask the Prime Minister” programme on Tuesday, Dr Denzil Douglas suggested that the matter of a united front was more applicable to his governing Labour Party than the emerging opposition coalition arrangement.
The six elected MPs of the three party combination of the People’s Action Movement, the Nevis-based Concerned Citizens Movement and the recently launched People’s Labour Party have indicated that they will soon announce just who is leading the initiative.
However, Douglas insists that they are stalling and remain indecisive on that matter.
“There is no captain, there is no leader. If you can’t pick a captain then how are you going to pick a side?” Douglas said.
The prime minister also suggested that his governing Labour Party was more united than what the parliamentary opposition is pushing as their united front.
“Unity, it is something that is personified in the Labour Party at present … the Labour Party is now much more united and stronger again to deal with the issues of our country,” Douglas insisted.
Two former senior government ministers, Dr Timothy Harris and Sam Condor, who have distanced themselves from the Douglas administration, have formed the People’s Labour Party and accuse Douglas of having moved away from the principles and policies of Labour.
The parliamentary opposition is still waiting after eight months, for a motion of no confidence to be tabled and debated in the Parliament in Basseterre.
They have more elected MPs than the government in the form of a 6-5 equation.
