EZjet to fly additional Guyana routes
Published on September 29, 2012 Email To Friend    Print Version

GEORGETOWN, Guyana (GINA) -- Regional and international airline EZjet Guyana Inc., has been approved to fly additional routes from points outside of Guyana via Guyana and the Caribbean and Central America to any point within the United States and beyond to any point in Canada.

This announcement was made on Thursday by Head of the Presidential Secretariat Dr Roger Luncheon at his weekly post-Cabinet media briefing.

This move by EZjet is first aimed at CARICOM destinations and eventually at Brazil, Luncheon added. He noted that the Ministry of Public Works with responsibility for aviation, disclosed the information to Cabinet through a memorandum.

EZjet currently operates direct flights to the US and to Toronto out of Guyana. Their entry into the air transport sector has rationalised fares to the US and Canada from Trinidad and Tobago and from Guyana, easing tremendously a significant disparity since the licensing and entry into operation of the airline.

However, notwithstanding Guyana’s approval, the passenger carrier would have to get approval from the other states to start flying the prescribed routes.

EZjet airlines began servicing the Guyana/New York route in December 2011 from JFK airport and in July introduced its non-stop flight to Canada.

It is estimated that there is a market of 50,000 people travelling between the latter destination and Guyana.
