WILLEMSTAD, Curacao -- The indefinite suspension of public meetings of the Curacao Parliament is contrary to the rules of procedure of the parliament, says Dutch Minister Liesbeth Spies, who is in charge of Kingdom Relations.
She also argued that there is no basis for such a decision in any other Ordinance. Spies noted that this situation makes it impossible for the Parliament to make any budget modifications following the instructions received from the Netherlands government. It would also mean that the Parliament loses their controlling power over the government.
Spies finds it a worrisome and undesirable situation from a democratic point of view.
