HAVANA, Cuba (ACN) -- Cuba received through September 2012 a total of 106,277 tourists more than in the same period of the previous year, the National Office of Statistics and Information (ONEI) announced on Monday.
According to the ONEI’s website, 2,170,067 tourists arrived on the island during the first nine months of 2012, a figure that represents a 5.1 increase in this period.
Varadero, together with the hotel facilities of Jardines del Rey and Santa Maria Cay continue to be favourites of those coming to Cuba to enjoy its sun and beaches.
In September, 148,356 tourists visited the island, 4.2 percent more than in the same month in 2011.
In spite of the economic crisis and the low numbers of tourists from the main European markets, people continue preferring to visit Cuba, according to experts in this sector.
